NSC Staffing is seeking experienced Piping & Flushing Technicians to support marine, shipyard, and industrial piping system operations. This role is responsible for executing piping system flushing, testing, commissioning support, and contamination control activities to ensure systems meet cleanliness standards and operational requirements.
The ideal candidate has hands?on experience with marine or industrial piping systems, hydraulic systems, pumps, filtration equipment, and system troubleshooting in demanding production environments.
Position Overview
The Piping & Flushing Technician performs installation support, testing, flushing, cleaning, and commissioning activities for piping systems aboard vessels and within industrial facilities. This position requires strict adherence to safety protocols, technical specifications, and quality standards while working independently or as part of a project team.
Candidates should be comfortable working aboard vessels, in confined spaces, at heights, and in fast?paced shipyard environments where extended shifts and overtime may be required to meet project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Piping System Flushing & Testing
  • Execute piping system flushing procedures in accordance with project specifications, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Perform cleaning and flushing activities on systems including:
    • Hydraulic Systems
    • Fuel Systems
    • Fresh Water Systems
    • Cooling Water Systems
    • Auxiliary Piping Systems
  • Operate flushing rigs, pumps, filters, hoses, flush tanks, and associated equipment.
  • Monitor flushing operations to ensure cleanliness and contamination control standards are achieved.
System Testing & Commissioning Support
  • Perform pneumatic, functional, and operational testing of piping systems.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct leaks, deficiencies, and non?conformances.
  • Support commissioning and system turnover activities.
  • Verify systems meet cleanliness and operational requirements before acceptance.
Mechanical & Technical Support
  • Assist with pump and motor removal, installation, alignment, and maintenance.
  • Support equipment alignment activities and replacement of shims and mechanical components.
  • Interpret and follow:
    • P&IDs
    • Technical drawings
    • Engineering specifications
    • Work instructions
  • Verify proper routing of hoses and flushing equipment configurations.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
  • Diagnose flushing and circulation issues, including:
    • Closed or incorrectly positioned valves
    • Clogged filters
    • Pump failures
    • Air trapped within systems
    • Damaged hoses or piping
    • Flow restrictions and blockages
  • Implement corrective actions to restore proper system performance.
  • Document deficiencies and coordinate solutions with project leadership.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate records including:
    • Flushing logs
    • Inspection documentation
    • Material logs
    • Daily reports
    • Timesheets
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, cleanliness requirements, and quality standards.
  • Support audits and customer inspections as required.
Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, shipyard procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety observations, and hazard assessments.
  • Properly use PPE and maintain safe work practices at all times.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working in:
    • Marine piping systems
    • Industrial piping systems
    • Shipyard environments
    • Mechanical maintenance operations
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and piping documentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to pass a pre?employment drug screening and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with:
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Flushing systems
    • Hydrostatic testing
    • Commissioning support
  • Military vessel, U.S. Navy, or U.S. Coast Guard experience.
  • Familiarity with:
    • MIL?STD?1330 flushing requirements
    • NAVSEA technical standards
  • Prior experience as an Outside Machinist, Pipefitter, Mechanical Technician, or similar role.
  • Vocational or technical training in Pipefitting, Plumbing, Mechanical Systems, or related fields.

Work Environment
  • Active shipyard, vessel, industrial, and offshore environments.
  • Work may be performed in:
    • Confined spaces
    • Elevated locations
    • Machinery spaces
    • Engine rooms
    • Industrial production environments
  • Extended shifts, overtime, weekends, and travel may be required based on project schedules.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and vessel access points.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat, cold, and varying weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of wearing required PPE including:
    • Respirators
    • Safety harnesses
    • Hearing protection

    • Eye protection
