An offshore mechanic performs maintenance and repair duties on a rig. In this career, you work on equipment used in the oil and gas industry. You perform scheduled maintenance, make repairs, and install new equipment or change components when necessary. Your responsibilities include following strict safety guidelines and regulations. You usually focus on drilling equipment, pumps, turbines, and other mechanical and hydraulic fixtures on the rig. After a repair or installation project, you test the equipment to make sure that it functions safely and correctly. You usually live on the oil rig for several weeks before getting shore leave.
