What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an offshore position requiring weeks-long rotations, and why are they important?

To thrive in an offshore role with multi-week rotations, you generally need technical expertise in your trade (such as engineering, drilling, or maintenance), safety training, and relevant certifications like BOSIET or HUET. Familiarity with industry-standard equipment, safety management systems, and remote communication tools is typically required. Offshore For Weeks typically refers to workers who spend extended periods offshore, often for weeks at a time, performing various support or technical roles. Offshore Drillers are specialized professionals responsible for operating drilling equipment on offshore rigs. While both work offshore, Offshore Drillers focus specifically on drilling operations, requiring specialized certifications. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find roles aligned with their skills and career goals.

What does it mean to work offshore for weeks?

Working offshore for weeks typically means being stationed on a platform, vessel, or rig located at sea for extended periods, often two to four weeks at a time. Employees live and work on-site, performing duties related to oil and gas extraction, wind energy, or marine construction. After completing a shift rotation, workers usually get an equal or longer period of time off onshore. This type of work requires adaptability to remote living, long hours, and being away from family, but often provides competitive pay and benefits.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working offshore for extended periods, and how can these be managed?

Professionals working offshore for weeks at a time often face challenges such as isolation from family, adapting to a confined living environment, and maintaining work-life balance. Additionally, the demanding schedule—often involving long shifts and rotating work cycles—can lead to fatigue and stress. To manage these challenges, many companies provide support services, such as regular communication with loved ones, recreational facilities, and mental health resources. Building strong relationships with colleagues and maintaining a routine also help employees adjust to the unique offshore lifestyle.

Job description

Overview

Overview:

We are looking for a self-directed BI Analyst to join our growing HealthEdge Business Intelligence team. In this role you will own the end-to-end design and delivery of business intelligence dashboards in Tableau and Amazon QuickSight, working in close partnership with internal HealthEdge stakeholders to turn data into clear, actionable insight.

You will collaborate daily with our onshore and offshore data engineers, who build and maintain the AWS-based lakehouse and analytics-ready data sources you will consume. Your focus is on the analytical and visual layer: understanding what business teams need to decide, modeling the data into intuitive dashboards, and delivering a polished, usable experience that holds up to executive and operational scrutiny.

The ideal candidate operates independently, has strong opinions about usability and visual design, and is relentless about working efficiently - shipping high-quality dashboards quickly and iterating with users rather than disappearing for weeks at a time.

Core Responsibilities

Dashboard Design and Development

  • Build, publish, and maintain Tableau and Amazon QuickSight dashboards that serve internal HealthEdge operational and executive audiences.
  • Translate business questions into well-modeled QuickSight datasets and Tableau data sources, applying appropriate joins, calculated fields, parameters, and filters.
  • Apply strong visual design principles - clear hierarchy, intentional use of color, consistent layout, and accessible typography - so dashboards are immediately usable by their intended audience.
  • Optimize dashboard performance, evaluating SPICE vs. Direct Query in QuickSight and live vs. extract connections in Tableau, and managing refresh schedules.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized portfolio of published assets across both BI platforms, retiring stale content rather than letting it accumulate.

Stakeholder Partnership and Insight Delivery

  • Engage directly with internal business stakeholders across the organization to understand the decisions they need to make and what evidence would change those decisions.
  • Distill findings into clear narratives and recommendations; package insights so non-technical stakeholders can act on them without translation.
  • Maintain lightweight documentation describing what each dashboard answers, what it does not, and who owns the underlying data.

Collaboration with Data Engineering

  • Partner with onshore and offshore data engineers to define and refine the analytics-ready data sources that power dashboards.
  • Write your own SQL for ad-hoc analysis, prototyping, and data validation; surface gaps, quality issues, or modeling changes back to the data engineering team.
  • Help prioritize the data engineering backlog by clearly articulating which new data, columns, or refresh frequencies are needed to unlock business value.

Quality, Iteration, and Continuous Improvement

  • Validate dashboard numbers against source systems and surface discrepancies promptly.
  • Monitor usage and gather feedback from end users; retire or rework dashboards that are not earning their place.
  • Identify and propose opportunities to consolidate redundant reports, improve refresh cadence, or migrate legacy Tableau or Excel content into QuickSight (or vice versa) as the platform strategy evolves.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience building production BI dashboards in Tableau, Amazon QuickSight, Power BI, Looker, or comparable modern BI tooling - with at least one tool used at deep, hands-on proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to design clean, usable dashboards with strong visual hierarchy, intentional use of color, and a clear point of view. Portfolio or work samples preferred.
  • Proficiency in SQL - comfortable writing your own queries to explore data, prototype, validate dashboards, and prepare datasets.
  • Solid understanding of data warehouse and lakehouse concepts: dimensional modeling, joins, granularity, slowly changing dimensions, and the difference between transactional and analytical data.
  • Strong sense of ownership and self-direction. Comfortable managing your own prioritization across multiple internal stakeholders and asking for help when blocked.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication. Able to translate ambiguous business questions into a sharp set of dashboards and to explain results clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience, in a quantitative, analytical, design, or business field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with both Tableau and Amazon QuickSight, including dataset creation, calculated fields, parameters, row- and column-level security, and dashboard publishing in each.
  • Healthcare or health plan domain experience (claims, membership, provider, care management, or customer support data).
  • Experience translating workbooks and reports between BI platforms (Tableau  QuickSight, Excel BI tool).

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to shape the analytical and visual layer of a greenfield AWS-native BI platform.
  • A collaborative, small-team environment where your dashboards land in front of HealthEdge leadership and operational teams and directly inform decisions.
  • Exposure to a broad technology stack spanning analytics, data engineering, and modern cloud infrastructure.
  • A collaborative team that values quality, usability, visual design, and efficient delivery.
