Offshore Drafting information

What is offshore drafting?

Offshore drafting refers to the process of creating technical drawings, plans, and blueprints for engineering or construction projects by utilizing teams located in offshore locations, often in countries with lower labor costs. These drafters use specialized software to produce detailed schematics for architects, engineers, and manufacturers. Offshore drafting can help companies save time and money while maintaining high-quality standards, especially for repetitive or large-scale projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an offshore drafter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Offshore Drafter, you need strong skills in technical drawing, CAD software proficiency, and a solid understanding of offshore engineering concepts, often supported by a diploma or degree in drafting or engineering technology. Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and industry standards such as ASME or API is typically required, along with experience handling document management systems. Attention to detail, effective communication, and teamwork are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accurate, compliant designs and smooth collaboration with engineering teams, which are critical for the safety and success of offshore projects.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in offshore drafting, and how can they be addressed?

Offshore drafting professionals often work across different time zones and may encounter communication barriers with onshore teams. These challenges can be addressed by establishing clear communication protocols, using collaborative project management tools, and scheduling regular check-ins to ensure alignment. Additionally, understanding regional drafting standards and adapting to varying client requirements are essential for success in this role. Being proactive in seeking clarification and staying updated on industry software can greatly enhance productivity and accuracy.

Offshore Drafting involves remote work with international teams, often requiring similar skills and certifications as Onshore Drafting. The main difference lies in the work location and client interaction, with offshore roles typically serving global projects from a different country.

Are offshore drafters still in demand?

Offshore drafters are still in demand in industries such as engineering, construction, and manufacturing, where detailed technical drawings are essential. The role often requires proficiency with CAD software and knowledge of industry standards, and demand can vary based on project volume and economic factors.

The Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day delivery management of a complex, multi-workstream enterprise software implementation. This role runs the full delivery team—both onshore and offshore—ensuring sprint cadence, risk management, stakeholder communication, and delivery governance operate smoothly across all phases.

Working under the direction of the Program Manager, the Project Manager serves as the operational hub of the engagement. You will own the program plan, track issues and risks, coordinate with the technology implementation team on dependencies, and contribute to both internal and client-facing status reporting.

This role is work-from-home (remote) though must be able to commute to client offices in Falls Church, VA as needed (estimated every 2 weeks). This is a full-time W2 employment position with benefits. Please note that this role is tied to a client contract and is structured as an initial 9-month position. Opportunities for extension or long-term placement are highly likely based on client renewal and project performance.

Responsibilities
As the Project Manager, you will lead daily execution, drive cross-functional alignment, and enforce project governance. Your primary duties include:

  • Delivery Team & Schedule Management: Own day-to-day project tracking across all workstreams, maintaining the program plan, monitoring milestones, and flagging risks or schedule variances to the Program Manager. Direct onshore and offshore team members across all workstreams to ensure clarity on priorities, blockers, and deliverables.
  • Risk Management & Governance: Capture, track, and drive resolution for all risks and issues via the risk and issue log. Enforce the RACI matrix and governance cadence to ensure decision-making and escalation paths are followed and documented.
  • Sprint Operations & Team Coordination: Facilitate sprint planning and retrospective logistics, track velocity, and maintain backlog hygiene in the project management tool. Coordinate with offshore team leads on capacity, blockers, and status, escalating to the Program Manager when necessary.
  • Technology Implementation Alignment: Coordinate directly with the technology implementation team on project-related topics, dependencies, and integration touchpoints, escalating program-level decisions as needed.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Draft content for client-facing and internal status reports for Program Manager review. Maintain all program documentation—including meeting notes, decision logs, and delivery artifacts—ensuring assets remain current and accessible.
  • Onboarding, Scope & Readiness Support: Coordinate system access, environment provisioning, and onboarding logistics for new onshore and offshore team members. Support scope change documentation by tracking scope decisions against the program plan and budget. Track go/no-go checklist items and ensure owner accountability ahead of cutover.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–8 years of project management experience, with at least 3 years spent on enterprise software delivery engagements.
  • Demonstrable experience running hybrid onshore/offshore delivery teams across multiple time zones.
  • Strong proficiency with Jira, sprint management, backlog grooming, reporting, and dashboard configuration.
  • Proven experience managing risk and issue logs, program plans, and delivery governance on multi-workstream programs.
  • Solid understanding of agile delivery methodologies, sprint ceremonies, velocity tracking, and iterative delivery cadences.
  • Experience contributing to client-facing status reports and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience coordinating with third-party technology implementation teams on project dependencies and integration touchpoints.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to assist with documentation drafting, status reporting, meeting summarization, and program tracking (AI-assisted productivity is standard practice on this engagement).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft clear, concise status reports and communicate delivery status effectively to both internal and client stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and extreme attention to detail, with a proven ability to track multiple concurrent workstreams seamlessly.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with bi-weekly sprint cycles and frequent stakeholder touchpoints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP, PMI-ACP, or equivalent formal project management certification.
  • Prior experience delivering ERP modernization, cloud platform, or enterprise data programs.
  • Experience supporting production cutover planning and go/no-go readiness coordination.
  • Prior consulting or professional services delivery experience.
