Job description

The Press Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining a Mitsubishi 6-color Perfector to ensure the efficient and high-quality finishing of printed materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the printing industry and be skilled in machine operation, troubleshooting and meeting production deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Operation: Set up, operate, monitor and maintain offset printing press, installing and aligning printing plates, ink preparation, reading job orders, operating auxiliary equipment

Quality Control: Inspect finished materials for accuracy, color consistency and defects, making adjustments as needed

Daily Clean Up: Wiping down all accessible surfaces, removing excess ink from rollers and blankets, cleaning the ink fountain essentially focusing on removing any ink buildup and debris

Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on press to minimize downtime. Report more complex issues to Management.

Production Monitoring: Track job progress and ensure timely completion of production orders. Adjust machine settings as necessary to meet production timelines.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety guidelines and ensure the work area remains clean and organized Adhere to all company and industry safety standards.

Inventory Control: Monitor the supply of materials such as paper, ink, coatings and notify Management when additional stock is required.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of production runs, including machine settings, materials used and any issues encountered during the job

Shipping and Receiving

Making deliveries in a box truck, as needed

Assists in other departments, including Bindery, as needed


Qualifications:

Experience: Proven experience as an offset press operator or in a similar role within the printing industry

Attention to Detail: Must have a keen eye for quality control and a strong focus on producing high-quality products

Physical Requirements: Ability to life heavy materials, stand for long periods and perform manual tasks as required

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify machine malfunctions and take immediate corrective action.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a variety of press and bindery machines, including cutters, folders, stitchers and binders with the ability to read work orders and set up equipment according to project specifications. Ability to perform preventive maintenance.

Safety Awareness: Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and the ability to maintain a safe, clean working environment

Much of the day is spent standing, bending, stooping and performing repetitive movements. The majority of the work day is spent in a climate-controlled environment.

Must be (or become) forklift certified

Must have a valid drivers license

Working Conditions:

Full-time position with overtime based on production needs

The work environment may involve exposure to loud noises, moving machinery and occasional heavy lifting

The working environment is mostly climate-controlled

May be required to work evenings, weekends or holidays depending on production schedules; however the typical work week is Monday through Thursday with most Fridays and weekends off.
