Job description

The School District of South Milwaukee is looking for reliable individuals who want to provide a clean, safe, learning environment for students and staff. This dynamic individual will be part of a dedicatedย  team but can alsoย  work independently in a school setting. Individuals will perform cleaning tasks necessary to assure that the building is in a condition consistent with the District standards of cleanliness and safety. The basic workweek of a District Floater consists of 7.0 hour days, Monday through Friday, 2:15pm-9:45pm.
Rate of pay for this position is $18/hour.
SPECIALโ€‹ โ€‹QUALIFICATIONSโ€‹ โ€‹OFโ€‹ โ€‹THEโ€‹ โ€‹POSITION:
  • Requiredโ€‹ โ€‹Experienceโ€‹ โ€‹orโ€‹ โ€‹Training:โ€‹ โ€‹Must be a high school graduate or equivalent training.
  • Desiredโ€‹ โ€‹Experienceโ€‹ โ€‹orโ€‹ โ€‹Training:โ€‹ โ€‹ โ€‹Work experience with custodial cleaning practices and products.
  • Knowledge,โ€‹ Skills,โ€‹ โ€‹andโ€‹ โ€‹Abilities:โ€‹ Physical fitness and mental ability to perform assigned work. Ability to work well with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize work while following verbal and written directives.
  • Languageโ€‹ โ€‹Skills:โ€‹ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Job Responsibilities: Perform structured and non-structured cleaning of classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, offices, and other school areas. Participate in summer cleaning of the entire building. Assist with event setups and teardowns. As a floater individual will be based at 6-12 campus but will travel to elementary schools as needed to cover open shifts. Must have reliable transportation and a valid drivers license.
PRIMARYโ€‹ โ€‹CLEANINGโ€‹ โ€‹FUNCTIONSโ€‹:
  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floor surfaces and stairways.
  • Clean and sanitize all facets of classrooms, bathrooms, and hallways.
  • Dusting / Including High Dusting.
  • Clean windows, locker exteriors, and drinking fountains.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, well stocked supply cart and closet.
  • Report the need for supplies to the Custodian.
  • Must observe safety and conduct rules.
  • Special cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Assist PM Lead Custodian.
  • Assist with shovel snow/salt.
  • Spot clean carpet/gum removal.

Must demonstrate good appearance, conduct and attitude toward fellow employees, students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.
