Position Summary
The Student Success Leader (SSL) for African American Student Services (AASS) is a student staff position focused on supporting departmental operations, student engagement, and summer programming initiatives. This role is ideal for motivated UNM students who are committed to student success, community building, and culturally responsive support.
Student Success Leaders serve as ambassadors for AASS, assisting with outreach, front-facing services, and administrative support while contributing to a welcoming and inclusive environment for current and incoming students.
Employment Period
Summer 2026 (May-August; specific schedule to be determined)
Occasional evening and weekend availability required based on program needs
Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Outreach
Represent AASS at New Student Orientation (NSO) sessions, engaging incoming students and families
Participate in community tabling, outreach events, and campus engagement opportunities
Promote AASS programs, services, and resources to prospective and current students
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally affirming environment
Program Support
Assist with planning and implementation of summer programs and events
Support initiatives such as the Summer Bridge Academy and other AASS programming
Help facilitate workshops, activities, and student engagement opportunities
Front Desk & Administrative Support
Oversee front desk operations, including greeting visitors and responding to inquiries
Provide accurate information about AASS services and campus resources
Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and materials preparation
Complete assigned tasks with guidance and collaboration from AASS staff
Professional Collaboration
Work closely with AASS staff and fellow student employees to support departmental goals
Attend required trainings, meetings, and check-ins
Maintain clear and consistent communication with supervisors
