Location will start in Troy, MI and move to Auburn Hills within 60 days. We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Building Engineer to oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of a large corporate office building with multiple high-profile tenants. This individual will serve as a key resource in ensuring a safe, professional, and well-maintained environment for tenants, visitors, and employees. The ideal candidate is a skilled facilities professional who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive, service-oriented approach. They are equally comfortable coordinating vendors, managing building systems, and rolling up their sleeves to diagnose and repair issues when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

• Oversee the day-to-day operation of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, fire/life safety, security, and mechanical systems.

• Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for preventative maintenance.

• Respond promptly to building emergencies and tenant service requests.

• Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on building equipment and systems when appropriate.

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and service calls.

Vendor & Contractor Management

• Coordinate and supervise third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers.

• Obtain quotes, schedule services, and ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.

• Monitor vendor performance and maintain strong working relationships with service partners.

• Ensure all contractors comply with building policies, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.

Tenant Relations

• Serve as a primary point of contact for building-related issues and tenant concerns.

• Deliver a high level of customer service while maintaining a professional and positive relationship with occupants.

• Partner with property management to ensure tenant satisfaction and address operational needs.

Preventive Maintenance & Compliance

• Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and building efficiency.

• Ensure compliance with local building codes, OSHA requirements, fire and life safety regulations, and company policies.

• Assist with inspections, audits, and regulatory requirements as needed.

• Support energy efficiency initiatives and identify opportunities to improve building performance.

Building Projects

• Assist with capital improvement projects, tenant build-outs, office reconfigurations, and facility upgrades.

• Coordinate project activities with tenants, contractors, and building management to minimize disruption.

• Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Location and Schedule
  • This is a full-time, office-based position in a modern, cozy environment in our Auburn Hills office building (Will start in Troy location).

  • Our standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

Skills & Qualifications

Required:

• 5+ years of experience in commercial building operations, facilities management, property management, or a related field.

• Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

• Experience managing vendors, contractors, and maintenance projects.

• Ability to independently troubleshoot and perform repairs. • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

• Proficiency with work order systems, maintenance software, and Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical job duties including climbing ladders, walking the property, and working in mechanical spaces.

Preferred

• Trade school certification or technical training in a related discipline.

• HVAC Certification (EPA/CFC preferred).

• Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS).

• Experience supporting multi-tenant office environments.
