What is an off cycle internship?

An Off Cycle Internship is a temporary work placement offered outside of the traditional summer internship period, typically during the autumn or spring. These internships are common in industries such as finance, consulting, and technology, and are designed for students or recent graduates who are available to work during the academic year. Off Cycle Internships may last from a few months up to a year and often provide hands-on experience, networking opportunities, and a potential pathway to full-time employment. They are ideal for individuals seeking flexibility or who missed the main internship recruitment cycle.

How does the structure and pace of an off cycle internship differ from traditional summer internships?

Off Cycle Internships typically run outside the standard summer period, often starting in the fall or spring, and may last anywhere from three to six months. The work environment is often more integrated with full-time staff, as there are fewer interns and less formal programming than in summer cohorts. This allows Off Cycle interns to take on more responsibility, receive individualized mentorship, and work on longer-term projects. The pace can be intense, especially in industries like finance or consulting, as interns are expected to quickly adapt and contribute to ongoing business cycles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an off cycle intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Off Cycle Intern, you generally need a strong academic background, eagerness to learn, and relevant coursework or experience aligned with the industry or department. Familiarity with technical tools such as Microsoft Office, industry-specific software, or data analysis platforms is often expected, and some roles may require basic certifications or specialized training. Strong organizational skills, proactive communication, and adaptability help interns stand out and integrate quickly into teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing effectively, maximizing learning opportunities, and building a foundation for future career growth.

What is the difference between Off Cycle Internship vs Summer Internship?

AspectOff Cycle InternshipSummer Internship
TimingDuring the academic year or outside typical summer monthsTypically during summer months (June-August)
DurationVaries, often longer or more flexibleUsually 8-12 weeks
Work EnvironmentSame as full-time employees, often more integratedMore structured, often part of campus recruiting
CredentialsSame as summer internships, often students or recent gradsSame as off cycle internships, students or recent grads

Off Cycle Internships occur outside the traditional summer period, offering more flexibility and often aligning with academic schedules. Summer Internships are scheduled during the summer months and are typically shorter. Both provide valuable industry experience, but off cycle internships may offer more tailored opportunities for students seeking internships during the academic year.

How do off cycle internships work?

Off cycle internships are temporary work experiences that occur outside the traditional summer or semester periods, often during fall, winter, or spring. They typically last for a few months and provide interns with hands-on experience, skill development, and networking opportunities, often requiring prior application and interview processes similar to regular internships.

How hard is it to get an off cycle internship?

Securing an off cycle internship can be competitive due to limited positions and high applicant interest. Candidates often need relevant skills, such as proficiency in specific tools or programming languages, and may be required to demonstrate prior experience or strong academic performance. Applying early and tailoring applications to the company's needs can improve chances of acceptance.

What companies do off cycle internships?

Many large corporations and financial institutions offer off cycle internships, typically during times outside the regular summer or winter programs. These internships are often available in industries such as finance, consulting, technology, and engineering, and may require specific skills or certifications. Companies like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Google, and Microsoft frequently provide off cycle internship opportunities for students and recent graduates seeking practical experience outside traditional internship periods.

Field Intern

Job description

Canvasser

All on the Field (AOTF) runs paid canvassing and ballot-access programs across multiple states. We are hiring Field Operations Interns to work alongside our operations and quality control teams during the 2026 cycle.
This is a working internship on a live program, not a shadowing program. You will sit inside the day-to-day machinery of a canvass: the recruitment pipeline, the supply chain, the data that comes back off the doors, and the checks that confirm it is real. Interns take on real pieces of that work, including verification calls, audit tracking, and recruitment and logistics support. You will learn how a metric-driven field program actually runs, from the paperwork up, and you will get direct exposure to the people running it.

Responsibilities

  • Support the operations team on recruitment logistics: scheduling interviews, tracking applicants, and keeping the candidate pipeline current
  • Assist with supply and materials logistics for field teams across districts
  • Make verification calls to voters recorded in canvasser data and log the results
  • Help maintain QC tracking: which shifts have been audited, which canvassers are outstanding, and where quality rates stand
  • Enter, clean, and cross-check field data
  • Pull together daily and weekly numbers for program reporting
  • Other duties as the program requires

Skills and Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented and organized; comfortable owning a task list without close supervision
  • Willing to spend real time on the phone
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets
  • Interested in electoral field work, campaigns, or political operations
  • Reliable, discreet, and steady when a program gets busy
  • Prior campaign, canvassing, or customer service experience is a plus but not required

The Details

  • Pay: $15.00 per hour
  • This position is open to candidates based in Georgia or North Carolina. Some in-person work is expected, though a fully remote arrangement is possible depending on the district.
  • Schedule: Part-time, with flexibility around class schedules. Some evening and weekend hours, since that is when field programs run.
  • Term: Position runs through November 2026
  • Reports to: Director of Field Operations
