Job description

Belgrade, United States | Posted on 06/17/2026

Department: Engineering
Reports To: Lead Development Engineer
Job Type: Full-Time / On-Site
Location: Belgrade, Montana

About X-Series USA

X-Series USA designs, develops, and supports advanced industrial machinery including fiber laser cutting systems, robotic welding automation, structural steel processing equipment, and custom manufacturing solutions.

From our headquarters in Belgrade, Montana, we focus on research, development, machine productization, applications engineering, and advanced manufacturing technologies that help North American manufacturers improve productivity, quality, and competitiveness.

Engineering is responsible for evaluating, developing, refining, standardizing, supporting, and continuously improving machine platforms across multiple product categories while increasing ownership of machine designs, engineering standards, technical resources, documentation, and intellectual property.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and execution-focused Project Engineer to serve as the primary coordination point between OEM factory development teams and the X-Series Engineering Department.

The initial focus of this role is to support Engineering in establishing the X-Series standard for technical documentation and engineering resources across all current machine platforms. This includes coordinating the acquisition, organization, validation, and maintenance of OEM technical information required for Engineering to develop X-Series-owned machine layouts, site requirement documents, electrical requirement documents, engineering standards, technical documentation packages, configuration records, manuals, implementation resources, service documentation, training materials, and other machine-specific support resources.

This is not a product strategy, product management, engineering management, or design authority role. Technical direction, engineering priorities, design standards, and final engineering decisions remain with the CTO and Lead Development Engineer.

Applications Engineers are technical subject matter experts responsible for commissioning equipment, developing and validating processes, conducting customer training, supporting demonstrations, and serving as a primary applications resource for customers throughout the United States.

This position requires frequent travel and direct interaction with customers, operators, programmers, and production personnel to ensure successful machine implementation and long-term customer success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute assigned machine development projects under the direction of the Lead Development Engineer.
  • Translate engineering directives into structured project plans with measurable deliverables and timelines.
  • Maintain project schedules, engineering priorities, milestone tracking, and development status reporting.
  • Identify and communicate project risks, delays, resource constraints, and technical roadblocks.
  • Serve as a primary engineering point of contact for project management, sales, service, and customer-facing stakeholders.
  • Support technical communication and issue resolution between Engineering, OEM partners, and customer-facing teams.
  • Ensure assigned engineering tasks are completed according to scope, timeline, quality expectations, and project objectives.
OEM Technical Data & Resource Development Coordination
  • Act as a primary coordination point between OEM factory product managers and the domestic engineering team.
  • Coordinate acquisition of technical information required to support development of X-Series engineering resources and documentation standards.
  • Obtain, organize, validate, and maintain OEM resources including mechanical drawings, CAD models, BOMs, electrical schematics, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams, software backups, OEM specifications, technical manuals, configuration records, and testing and validation data.
  • Work with OEM teams to resolve documentation gaps, discrepancies, and incomplete technical data packages.
  • Support development and refinement of existing machine platforms requiring additional engineering attention.
  • Assist with execution of machine variants, custom configurations, and customer‑specific requirements.
  • Track design changes, configuration updates, and development status throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support engineering validation, testing, and readiness reviews.
  • Coordinate development of standardized engineering resources for all machine platforms.
  • Support Development Engineers in creating and maintaining X-Series machine standards, technical documentation packages, configuration databases, engineering reference libraries, service resources, installation resources, training materials, and product development records.
  • Track completion status of resource‑development initiatives across machine platforms.
Cross‑Functional Coordination & Reporting
  • Coordinate with Sales, Service, Applications Engineering, Logistics, Manufacturing, and R&D Operations as required.
  • Maintain accurate project status reports, engineering action item logs, and development tracking records.
  • Provide regular updates to the Lead Development Engineer regarding project progress, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure engineering leadership has clear visibility into project status and execution progress at all times.
Applications Engineering Coordination
  • Coordinate activities and priorities among Applications Engineering personnel.
  • Support scheduling of customer visits, demonstrations, commissioning activities, and applications initiatives.
  • Track completion of applications engineering deliverables, training resources, and technical development projects.
Qualifications
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with industrial machinery, manufacturing systems, automation equipment, or fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong follow‑through, accountability, and execution focus.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working with OEM manufacturing partners.
  • Experience supporting machine development or productization efforts.
  • Exposure to industrial automation, CNC machinery, robotics, welding systems, or fabrication equipment.
  • Experience using project management, ERP, PLM, CRM, or engineering documentation systems.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, installation, commissioning, or service workflows.
  • Experience working in an R&D or product development environment.
  • Combination of office, engineering, and industrial shop environments.
  • Frequent interaction with domestic engineering personnel and international OEM partners across various time zones.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required to support OEM partner visits, machine evaluations, customer projects, technical reviews, and development initiatives.
  • Hands‑on role combining engineering coordination, project execution, technical communication, and development support.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $75,000–$100,000, depending on experience and aptitude.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Health insurance.
  • Direct mentorship from engineering leadership.
  • Opportunity to influence development of next‑generation machine platforms.
  • Life in Belgrade, Montana — a growing engineering hub with unmatched outdoor access.
