Job Description

The Customer Solutions Engineer (CSE) will be responsible for driving business growth for ETAS Manufacturing Diagnostics by identifying new market opportunities, partnering with customers and sales teams, and aligning customer needs with innovative diagnostic solutions. The role serves as a key technical and strategic interface between customers, sales, and product management, supporting pre-sales activities, solution development, and product roadmap evolution. The CSE will also contribute to the successful deployment and delivery of manufacturing diagnostic solutions through customer engagement, technical consulting, and on-site implementation support.  Key responsibilities:  

Identify opportunities and lead business acquisition 

  • Identify, evaluate, and drive new business opportunities, markets, and customer segments to ensure sustainable growth of the Manufacturing Diagnostics business.
  • Act as the strategic interface between Sales, Customers, and the Product Field to ensure alignment of market needs with product capabilities.
  • Constantly survey customer segments, value propositions, and competitor activities; bring market needs and insights to Product Management to influence the product vision and roadmap.

Assist Sales in Product and Solution Pitching 

  • Collaborate closely with the sales team, participating in pre-sales activities to demonstrate products (e.g., VCATS system) and customized solutions to customers as a technical expert.
  • Assist in creating pre-sales materials, customer documentation, and training materials, clearly conveying product vision, features, and business value to customers.
  • Experience utilizing cost-benefit analyses and analyzing market trends or business data to provide technical support to sales teams during commercial negotiations.
  • Collect real customer feedback from the field and channel it back to the product management team to drive the evolution of the product roadmap.

 Clarify Customer Requirements and Specify Solutions

  • Ability to engage with internal and external customers (e.g., OEMs) to clarify and analyze their manufacturing diagnostics and testing needs.
  • Prepare and define user requirement documentation, translating business needs into executable technical solutions and the team backlog.
  • Draft and define clear acceptance criteria, elaborating and breaking down technical solutions and program features while maintaining conceptual and technical integrity.

Technical Delivery and Quality Assurance

  • Authoring Manufacturing Diagnostics Tests and Sequences executed at the Production Line of the Vehicle Manufacturer.
  • Responsible for the on-site deployment, configuration, and testing of hardware and software solutions (e.g., diagnostic test sequences, runtime environments, server setups, and plant-specific networks).
  • Lead on-site verification and troubleshooting, capable of resolving complex technical issues during project execution independently or with minimal assistance.
  • Create/update validation test documentation, participating in QA and Production release reviews.
Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of vehicle diagnostics (at least one automotive diagnostic protocol such as ISO14229, ISO15765, KWP2000, J1939, ISO14230, or ISO13400).
  • IT system and network foundation (Windows XP/7/10 environments, VMware/Virtual Box virtualization, Windows background services, TCP/IP, DHCP).
  • Experience with databases (Microsoft SQL Server) and data formats (XML, ODX, OTX).
  • Proficiency using packet capture and analysis tools (Wireshark, CAN/DoIP logs); ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with programming languages, eg C++,JavaScripts
  • Experience fault-finding, debugging, and troubleshooting capabilities.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to influence through communication, capable of communicating visions and technical solutions to diverse stakeholders (customers, sales, R&D).
  • Managing projects with defined business outcomes, a result-oriented approach, ability to identify and execute new business opportunities
  • Experience applying agile and lean methodologies, such as SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, or OKR frameworks.
  • Experience using JIRA for task and backlog management

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Electrical or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 5-years experience within the automotive industry and technology.

Travel: 

  • Up to 50% travel may be required
