Job description

Salary Range: - $17.04 - $22.71 (8 Steps)
Qualifications desired: The successful candidate shall possess the following skills to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Must have skill in written and oral communication.
  • Must have proficiency in reading and math.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to assist classroom teacher with instructional activities, clerical work, and supervise one or small groups of children.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with students, parents, administration, and other staff members.
  • Must meet Highly Qualified Classroom Assistant requirements.


 

An individual is deemed Highly Qualified by ONE of the following ways:

1. An associate degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education; or at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours). Applicants must submit their official transcripts from an accredited college or university. Please review the Instructions for Submitting Transcript and short video tutorial before scanning and uploading transcripts.

2. An online assessment for paraprofessionals prescribed by the State Board of Education (ParaPro Assessment). Candidates must request their test scores be reported directly to the Ohio Department of Education from the Educational Testing Service.   Upon successful passage of the test you will then be able to ADD the ESEA designation to your ODE license.  

If you are in need of taking the ParaPro Assessment you will take the test in Mentor at the Mentor Schools Board of Education building AFTER being hired as a full time employee.  A two hour block of time will be scheduled for you to come to the board office and take the online test.  

The ESEA designation is a one time cost of $20.00 that will need to be added to your ODE Educational Aide permit. This is a condition of employment.
