Job Description:
The Buyers Assistant role at Ocean State Job Lot ("OSJL" and "Company") is responsible for supporting a Buyer with daily administrative functions to ensure all business needs are met. This role assists with entering data, creating reports, and conducting product research. The Buyers Assistant role has determination to get the job done and willingness to try new things when needed, including, but not limited to, generating purchase orders and monitoring product flow through completion.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Process and follow-up on purchase orders.
  • Correspond professionally with OSJL stores and all current and future vendors.
  • Screen calls and communicate pertinent information clearly to the Buyers.
  • Conduct product research as needed to support product offering growth.
  • Perform administrative duties to support the daily operations of the Buying Department.
  • Work under minimal supervision, utilizing tools and processes to meet larger strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain strong communication skills and contribute to a culture of trust and respect.
  • Embrace diverse ideas of others and collaborate effectively for the sake of the Company.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, organizing multiple tasks around strict deadlines.
  • Facilitate online collaboration to ensure client and team success.
  • Lead by example in serving all stakeholders: Customers, owners, communities, and associates.
  • Assist Buyer with marketing and advertising initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • 1 or more years of professional experience in imports or buying, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in office/administrative duties is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows OS and Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

Work Environment:
  • Works primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard
    potential.
  • Works in an office environment sitting at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.
