Dynatrace Observability Engineer - McLean, VA - $80/hr

Location: McLean, VA

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Overview:

We're seeking an experienced Dynatrace Observability Engineer to design, implement, and optimize enterprise observability solutions across complex cloud, hybrid-cloud, and distributed application environments.

This role will serve as a subject matter expert for application performance monitoring, infrastructure observability, distributed tracing, and proactive incident detection using Dynatrace. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Dynatrace APM, cloud platforms, automation, and modern observability practices supporting mission-critical enterprise systems.

Local candidates are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and maintain the Dynatrace platform, including configuration, governance, upgrades, and integrations.

Deploy and manage Dynatrace OneAgents and ActiveGates across cloud, on-premises, and Kubernetes environments.

Build and maintain dashboards, alerts, SLOs, management zones, tagging strategies, and observability standards.

Implement end-to-end monitoring for applications, APIs, infrastructure, logs, and digital user experiences.

Configure distributed tracing, service flow mapping, Real User Monitoring (RUM), and synthetic monitoring.

Analyze application performance, latency, bottlenecks, and reliability issues using Dynatrace Davis AI.

Define and measure SLIs and SLOs aligned with business objectives.

Integrate Dynatrace with CI/CD pipelines, ITSM platforms, logging solutions, and event management tools.

Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, Bash, Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies.

Support incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.

Deliver reporting, analytics, and observability insights to technical and business stakeholders.

Promote observability best practices across engineering, SRE, DevOps, and cloud teams.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of enterprise monitoring, observability, or performance engineering experience.

10+ years of hands-on Dynatrace APM experience.

Strong knowledge of observability pillars including metrics, logs, traces, and events.

Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Kubernetes and container monitoring experience.

Experience configuring dashboards, alerting, tagging rules, management zones, and SLOs.

Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, APIs, and application performance management.

Experience with automation scripting using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar tools.

Familiarity with CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or GitLab.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Dynatrace Associate or Professional Certification.

Experience with Dynatrace Grail, Logs, or OpenTelemetry.

Experience with Monitoring-as-Code (Monaco) or Terraform.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience.

Performance engineering experience.

Experience integrating Dynatrace with ServiceNow, Splunk, PagerDuty, Prometheus, Grafana, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.

Knowledge of network monitoring and synthetic testing solutions.

Salesforce application monitoring experience.
