Observability Aiops Engineer information

What is an Observability AIOps engineer?

An Observability Aiops Engineer is a technology professional who focuses on implementing and managing observability tools and practices, often leveraging artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps). Their role is to ensure system reliability, performance, and uptime by monitoring, analyzing, and automating responses to IT incidents. They integrate data from logs, metrics, and traces to gain real-time insights, helping organizations quickly detect and resolve issues. This role combines expertise in software engineering, monitoring solutions, automation, and machine learning to improve the overall health and efficiency of IT environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Observability AIOps engineer?

To thrive as an Observability AIOps Engineer, you need expertise in systems monitoring, data analytics, automation, and a strong understanding of IT infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Splunk, and AIOps platforms, as well as certifications in cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, or GCP), are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, collaboration, and a proactive mindset help you stand out in identifying and addressing system anomalies. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining high system reliability, reducing downtime, and enabling data-driven decision-making in complex IT environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Observability AIOps engineers in integrating monitoring solutions across diverse technology stacks?

Observability AIOps Engineers often encounter challenges when integrating monitoring and analytics tools across a mix of legacy systems, cloud-native applications, and various third-party platforms. Ensuring consistent data collection, normalization, and visualization can be complex due to differing protocols, data formats, and tool compatibility. Collaboration with development, operations, and security teams is crucial to address these challenges, streamline workflows, and maintain a unified observability platform. Staying current with evolving AIOps technologies and best practices is also vital for continued success in this dynamic role.

Job description

We are seeking a technical and customer-focused Solutions Consultant II to join our team. The Solutions Consultant II will partner with sales, product, and customer teams to build trusted relationships and help customers realize the value of PagerDuty's Operations Cloud, acting as a consultant, technical salesperson, and product specialist throughout the sales cycle.

Day to day, you'll independently own the Proof of Value process - from initial discovery through final presentation - and run workshop-style technical discovery sessions that translate customer needs into a clear path forward. You'll deliver custom demos that tie technical solutions to business value while building relationships with technical champions inside each account. Across every interaction, you'll translate complex concepts for audiences ranging from SREs and developers to business stakeholders, confidently navigating functional and competitive objections along the way.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build technical champions at customer accounts through standalone meetings and conversations, working closely with AEs to identify and grow them.
  • Own the Proof of Value (POV) process end-to-end: identify the business case with the AE, scope use cases and success criteria, document deliverables and timelines, and deliver both technical and final POV presentations.
  • Conduct workshop meetings that include deep-dive technical discovery, tying the technical solution to business value, visualizing current and future states, and delivering recommendations.
  • Prepare and deliver custom demos tailored to unique customer pain points, partnering with automation engineers on complex scenarios.
  • Conduct lightweight Operations Cloud Lifecycle Assessments (OCLA) with customers.
  • Effectively converse and persuade at a technical level with practitioners (SREs, developers, MIMs), and handle functional and competitive objections.
  • Articulate PagerDuty's differentiators relative to a customer's current and future state, incorporating them into POVs and custom demonstrations.
  • Break down complex technical concepts and explain them clearly to audiences ranging from DevOps engineers to business stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate notes and feedback in the CRM regarding customer input, both wins and losses.
  • Share best practices and reusable assets with other Solutions Consultants to improve the efficiency of the team. This Role Requires
Requirements
  • 4-7 years of pre-sales (or post-sales technical) experience
  • Basic skills in a scripting/coding language (Bash, Python, or PowerShell)
  • Intermediate-level Linux/Windows working experience
  • Beginner-level experience working with cloud service infrastructure components (VMs, load balancers, security settings, identity management)
  • Strong communication skills to build and manage relationships with new and existing clients
  • Project management skills and the ability to come up to speed quickly on new products and processes
  • Experience selling SaaS solutions
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as necessary
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in a technical field
  • Experience with Observability, AIOPs, Automation, or IT Service Management tools
  • Experience in enterprise sales environments
  • A track record of staying current on SC processes to help drive team efficiency and productivity
