An OB Laborist is an obstetrician-gynecologist who works exclusively in a hospital setting to provide care for pregnant patients, including managing labor and delivery. They handle emergency obstetric cases, assist with high-risk pregnancies, and ensure around-the-clock coverage for labor and delivery units. Unlike traditional OB-GYNs, they do not have an outpatient practice and focus solely on inpatient care. This role helps improve patient safety, reduce physician burnout, and ensure timely interventions for maternal and fetal health.

Ob Laborists typically work 12- or 24-hour shifts dedicated to managing patients in labor and responding to obstetric emergencies. During a shift, you can expect to oversee laboring patients, perform or assist in deliveries (both vaginal and cesarean), consult with emergency and antenatal departments, and coordinate care with nursing staff and other specialists. Teamwork is a core part of the job, as you'll frequently collaborate with other Ob/Gyns, hospitalists, anesthesiologists, and neonatologists to ensure the best outcomes for mothers and babies.
