Description

General Duties:
This position duties are to ensure the physician's schedule flows efficiently by preparing for patient visits and assist physician during exams.  After the visit the exam rooms are to be cleaned and prepared for the next patient.  Specimens are to be labeled for laboratory testing and placed in appropriate location to be collected.  


Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet and escort patients into exam area timely. 
  • Update patient demographics and medical history in EMR system
  • Obtain vital signs
  • Record chief complaint and start notes for physician
  • Check schedule and organize patient flow
  • Assist with collecting and labeling specimens for laboratory testing
  • Enter lab orders as directed by physician
  • Ensure encounter forms are completed before directing patient to the discharge area
  • Ensures exam rooms are clean, neat and fully supplied
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations
  • Maintain open communication between nurses and physician

Requirements

This is a full time, non-exempt position.


Knowledge of:

  • HIPPA/OSHA compliance
  • OB/GYN and medical terminology and procedures
  • Nursing theory, regulations and practices

Skills:

  • Computer literacy
  • Skilled in data entry
  • Demonstrate communication skills, tack, diplomacy, sensitivity, clarity and accuracy
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with physician other co-workers

Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and interpret policies and regulations.
  • Ability to utilize good clinical judgment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with physician, team member and patient
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures as directed

Education and Background:

  • Previous experience as an MA in the physician office setting, preferably OB/GYN office or Family Practice. Computer literacy required.
  • Current medical assistant certification preferred
  • Maintain CPR certification

  • Work well under stressful conditions, maintain a professional disposition

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual and manual dexterity for data entry on the computer.
  • Tolerate prolonged sitting or standing
  • All duties to be performed with or without accommodation.

  • Completes work in an established time frame; seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are complete.
