Position: Communications Specialist

Location: Richland, WA

Type: Full Time Non-Exempt

Anticipated Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm

Position Overview:

The Communications Specialist plays a key role in supporting strategic marketing and communication initiatives that advance Tri-Cities Chaplaincy's mission, promote services, and strengthen community engagement. This position is responsible for developing and designing content for a variety of channels, including social media, digital platforms, websites, email campaigns, video, and print materials. The role requires both creative and technical skills, including proficiency with visual design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as strong writing and editing abilities. 

Working collaboratively across departments, the Communications Specialist ensures consistent messaging and branding while managing multiple projects and deadlines. This position also participates in community outreach efforts, representing the agency at events and supporting public-facing initiatives that enhance visibility and partnerships. 

This role requires initiative, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced mission-driven environment. 


Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in marketing, graphic design, communications, public relations, or relevant field; or a combination of education and experience. 

At least two (2) years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or graphic design. 

Experience developing promotional campaigns for a variety of media.

Familiarity and skill with marketing tools, including PR, website maintenance, social media, email marketing tools, and design software (Canva, Adobe Suite, InDesign, etc.) 

Excellent attention to detail, organizational and planning skills with an emphasis on adherence to deadlines

Strong written and verbal communication abilities

Available to work occasional evenings or weekends for community events.

Ability to successfully manage multiple projects.

This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, which includes cannabis testing in Washington State.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, or similar organization. 

Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, Constant Contact).

Photography skills for events and content development. 

Video production or editing experience. 

Knowledge of branding strategy and audience segmentation. 

Experience developing promotional campaigns for a variety of media.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $27.35-$38.18

$3000 Sign on Bonus: This position is eligible for a $3000 sign on bonus upon successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.

At Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, we carefully establish pay ranges for our positions by taking various factors into account, including education, certifications, knowledge, skills, experience, internal equity, and market conditions. These ranges are tailored to match the diverse programs and services we offer. Our goal is to ensure fair compensation for candidates based on these factors while maintaining internal peer equity.

Hiring Range:  The starting pay range offered to new hires, depending on experience and qualifications 


Benefits 

Vacation: Accrued each pay period based on your hours worked. 

Sick Leave: Accrued in accordance with Washington State Sick Leave Law. 

Wellness Days: After completion of the 90-day introductory period, employees may convert up to two (2) accrued sick days annually into wellness days. 

Paid Holidays: Ten (10) paid agency observed holidays per year, available upon hire.

Bereavement Leave: Three (3) days for the loss of an immediate family member. Two (2) days for the loss of a household pet or service animal.

Community Volunteer Day (Yay Day): One (1) paid day annually for volunteer service, granted each January. 

Health Insurance Benefits (Effective the first of the month following date of hire): Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.

Employer Paid-Benefits: Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance (1x annual salary), Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability.

Voluntary Benefits: Supplemental Life Insurance, AD&D (Additional coverage), and Pet Insurance.

Voluntary Financial Protection Benefits: Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness, and Accident Insurance. 

Air Ambulance: Discounted rate for Life Flight.

Retirement 401(K) Plan: Employees may contribute upon hire; employer matching of up to 5% begins the following January or June depending on Hire date after 1 year of employment. 

Mileage Reimbursement: $0.72 per mile, for eligible positions. (Subject to change based on IRS rates)

Premium Pay: Bilingual (Spanish) pay premium (subject to proficiency verification through ALTA language services)

Certifications: Certification-based premium pay, as applicable and approved. 

Tuition Assistance: Up to $5,250 annually after one (1) year of employment.

Professional Development: Access to continuing education through platforms such as Relias Learning and CAPC. 


AGENCY REQUIREMENTS

1. Mission, Vision, and Values: Demonstrate support and adherence to the agency's Mission, Vision, and Values. 

2. Community Outreach: Participate in education and outreach activities to promote agency programs, including hospice care, advanced planning, and bereavement services. 

3. Policy Compliance: Maintain knowledge of and comply with agency policies, procedures, and practices. 

4. Confidentiality: Protect patient and agency information per HIPAA guidelines. Only access information on a need-to-know basis.

5. Transportation: Maintain reliable personal transportation. Maintain a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance per state requirements. 

6. Health Requirements: Satisfy state and agency health requirements by providing proof of immunization, declinations, or approved accommodations as applicable.

7. Screenings: Pass criminal background and drug screenings. 

8. Physical Demands: Meet the physical and environmental requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.(see attached physical requirements)

9. Training and Orientation: Complete agency and departmental orientation and required training programs. 

10. Continuing Education: Complete ongoing education, policy reviews, and training be designated deadlines.

11. Licensure and Certification: Maintain current licensure(s) and certifications(s) required for the role. 

12. Language Proficiency: Read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.

13. Work Availability: Be available to work as assigned or scheduled.
