Job description

The New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board (NYCIRB) is a non-profit, unincorporated association of insurance carriers. NYCIRB is licensed by the New York State Department of Financial Services as the official workers’ compensation rate service organization in the State.  In this capacity, NYCIRB provides a variety of services to the workers’ compensation industry, including data collection and analysis, and the development of loss costs and rating values. These activities, along with analytical tools, research, and customer focused services, are intended to foster a stable and healthy workers’ compensation system in the State of New York. 

SUMMARY

The Network Tech will be part of a team that owns the development, maintenance and end-to-end support of the network servers, backbone, and desktop / laptop computers. These responsibilities include the support of: end user support for onsite and mobile users, disaster recovery processes and procedures, local area network (LAN), Microsoft Windows Servers, storage area network (SAN), Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Cisco and Checkpoint switches and remote access devices, MS-Windows, and various third-party software. Assists in the development and maintenance of network communications. Uses knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks. Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates information technology systems operations. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support of all network servers, switches, workstations and printers including installation and upgrades. End user support of applications including but not limited to desktops, laptops, Windows operating system, Microsoft 365, Adobe products, and other various software, utilities, and applications.
  • Resolve technical issues in a timely manner and solve problems by adapting previous solutions to fit new conditions
  • Accurately and completely document problems and solutions on case notes
  • Manage back-up and recovery of data and systems.
  • Manage and maintain the Windows and VMware ESX server farm
  • Assist in maintaining department records pertaining to all hardware, software, networks and service agreements
  • Assist with project efforts and overall infrastructure enhancements to meet company goals and objectives
  • Work with 3rd party vendor support to implement upgrades and fixes
  • Maintain asset inventory, network diagrams and other related and relevant records
  • Provide instruction and relevant training to end-users in the use of technology
  • Role may require occasional planned and emergency off-hour support
  • Knowledge of VMware ESX server farm, MS-SQL servers, and/or cloud infrastructure is a plus
  • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience in installing, updating and maintaining OTC and custom software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Office.
  • Ability to install, upgrade and manage MS-window servers.
  • Practical knowledge of Active Directory, TCP/IP Networking, DNS, DHSP, RAS/VPN, VMware.
  • Experience and practical knowledge of backup/restore solutions.
  • Experience with software diagnostics, configuration and installation in the area of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of end user desktop issues in areas ranging from desktop support, e-mail, Remote Support tools, application support, web technologies, videoconferencing and IT security.
  • Infrastructure knowledge including SANs, switches and wireless networking.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to write processes and understand technical documentation.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of end users at all levels of the company.
  • Any of the following certifications or equivalent hands-on experience is an advantage:
    • Checkpoint and / or Cisco certification.
    • Microsoft Certified System Expert (MCSE) or A+ certification in Desktop Infrastructure, Server Infrastructure.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 
  • BA/BS in Information Technology field or Business Analysis
  • Or BA/BS in any field combined with relevant experience in the field
