Their responsibilities typically include ensuring children's safety, preparing meals, organizing activities, helping with homework, and sometimes performing light housekeeping. Many NYC nannies have specialized training or certifications and may work full-time, part-time, or live-in, depending on the family's needs. The unique demands and fast pace of the city often require NYC nannies to be flexible, resourceful, and familiar with local resources and activities for children.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a NYC nanny?

To thrive as a NYC Nanny, you need experience in child care, basic first aid/CPR certification, and a strong understanding of child development. Job description

Part-time Nanny (15-20 hrs/week) required for a warm Brooklyn family with one toddler son starting no later than September. Specific duties to be negotiated with the family, but in general, you will be responsible for providing nurturing care and interacting with their son in an active, stimulating, and age-appropriate way. All child related duties are expected, including meals/snack preparation, facilitating play dates/activities, and light child related housekeeping. The parents are looking for an engaged + attentive individual who encourages curiosity + learning in a playful manner and seeks a genuine connection with kids!
To be successful, you will need to be a calm, kind and nurturing nanny who enjoys partnering with hands-on parents. The family is looking for a long term part time nanny who has flexibility due to the parents' work schedules (both in creative space and hours vary / unpredictable) - candidates currently working weekends, who have flexible PT hours or who are in grad school would be a great match for this family! Your hours will be guaranteed week to week, however depending on the work schedules for Mom and Dad there will be consistent weeks where you will not be needed for that many hours.
Location: Williamsburg, NY (Fantastic location - building playroom, close to parks, amenities, etc)
Start date: September 2026
Days/times: Guaranteed 15-20 hours a week, 2-3 days a week with general hours to land Monday to Friday between 8am - 5pm. Ability to add additional hours with advance notice due to parents' work demands is required (up to 30 hrs on infrequent busier weeks). Flexibility is essential as the parents will at times not know their schedule until the week prior (and will give as much advance notice as possible). No weekends, personal family travel or overtime is expected with this role. Someone open/interested to support Mom during infrequent work international travel would be ideal (Mom is still breastfeeding).
Children: One son (born June 2024)
Conditions: $27 - $30 hour* (take home) plus sick days, public holidays, and two weeks paid leave per year
*dependent on experience
For further consideration, applicants must possess the following:
  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a nanny, 3-5 years preferred in NYC
  • Education or equivalent knowledge of stages of child growth and development
  • Exceptional childcare references that attest to strong communication skills, reliability, punctuality, maturity and high emotional intelligence
  • Recent experience with toddlers + school aged children
  • Desire to create fun and engaging age appropriate activities
  • Readiness to help with child light housekeeping as needed (son's laundry, upkeep bedroom and play areas, etc.).
  • Willingness to support family in their parenting goals - partnering in language, parenting styles and overall vibe in the home
  • Ability and interest to commit to a long term role (2 yrs plus)
  • Current passport (or willingness to obtain)
  • Comfortable (not allergic) in a home with dogs - family has a rescue dog. No dog related duties required
