The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods that align with product specifications and quality standards. This role involves recommending and implementing improvements to production processes, methods, and controls, collaborating with a cross-functional team to estimate new work for Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Quotations (RFQs), and coordinating manufacturing launches for new or revised products.
Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Engineer focuses on improving manufacturing processes and methods to achieve cost reduction, enhance quality, and increase efficiency by performing various analyses of production processes and operational procedures, which includes:
  • Developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, parts, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Assisting with failure analysis and troubleshooting non-conforming manufactured products to determine the root cause and necessary rework or repair.
  • Collaborating with management, engineering, and other staff to discuss manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other factors that facilitate production processes, including estimating production times, staffing requirements, and related costs.
  • Coordinating with Research amp; Development (R amp;D) on product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. This includes analyzing and planning workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designing the layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Designing, developing, modifying, and testing tools, machinery, fixtures, and equipment as needed, while also performing cost justification to ensure efficient production methods. The Engineer will install and validate equipment and processes in the production area to improve yield and reduce cycle time, following established validation procedures.
  • Scheduling and documenting the completion of routine maintenance on applicable manufacturing and test equipment.
  • Assisting with hands-on training for manufacturing employees on new product launches, tooling, equipment, and process revisions. The Engineer will also coordinate the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, establishing goals, determining the sequence of operations, optimizing process flow, training staff, troubleshooting, and evaluating results.
  • Completing time studies to quantify processing times and identify areas for improvement, as well as developing data measures and standards to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Performing tests, gathering data, and writing reports on results.
  • Completing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience in aircraft machining and/or assembly in a similar or related shop environment (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean methodologies and practices.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering science or a related field (other combinations of experience and education may be considered).
