Job description

About the Company
At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.
A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.
Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.
Meet the Team
  • We're a diverse group of 9-10 "Performant C++" enthusiasts - we value collaboration, dedication and professional development.
  • We create the application layer in the truck. Our customers are the Feature teams (ie: Lidar, Camera, Planner...) - they use our SDK to compose their applications.
  • Our team formed a year ago, when Torc approved our proposal to own the application layer, building upon our success with tools for model inference. Recently we achieved a major milestone: our first internal customers deployed to the Truck apps built on our framework.
  • We're growing & we're on Torc's Critical Path for commercialization.
  • Performance matters - each compute module is resource constrained, it's our job to empower full resource utilization across CPU, GPU and shared memory (related: nVidia AGX).
  • Safety matters - we share the roads with the public every day in Texas. Our code must adhere to industry best practices, and our team's deliverables play an important role in the safety case for Torc's Virtual Driver system.

What You'll Do
  • Develop a world class SDK / Framework for the composition and execution of applications that form the Virtual Driver system at Torc Robotics
  • Write C++ code! You'll work as a professional developer on the critical path towards commercialization.
  • Grow as a C++ professional, in the future-proof vertical of safety-critical robotics (level 4 self driving class 8 trucking)
  • Resolve field issues from our internal customers, by interrogating logs, provisioning telemetry, creating tests and writing code
  • Invent solutions to modern issues related to embedded robotics : determinism, type safety, test coverage, CUDA, observability/telemetry, concurrency, synch/asynch execution models, execution graphs, throughput, latency and much more.
  • Collaborate with team members at various levels of seniority, and engineers in related groups like Feature Development and Hardware Acceleration.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Object oriented C++ : we are the team that can put your expertise in C++ / C17 to use. You need to love working in C++ to thrive in this role.
  • An ability create simple and easily-understood software code.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or advanced degree with 5+ years experience
  • Experience with Linux
  • Dedication to first-time-quality, timeliness, teamwork & dependability.

Bonus Points
  • Professional experience applying design patterns and C++ features to real-world problems
  • Nvidia CUDA API (Runtime, Driver)
  • Nvidia embedded compute devices (AGX, Jetson, Thor)
  • Experience developing SDK's for complex embedded systems
  • Experience in autonomous robotic or vehicle systems.
  • Experience solving problems involving topics such as: pipelining, memory hierarchy, locality, ABI compatibility, CUDA, MISRA/ISO26262, resource management

Perks of Being a Full-time Torc'r
Torc cares about our team members and we strive to provide benefits and resources to support their health, work/life balance, and future. Our culture is collaborative, energetic, and team focused. Torc offers:
  • A competitive compensation package that includes a bonus component and stock options

  • 401K plan with a 6% employer match
  • Flexibility in schedule and generous paid vacation (available immediately after start date)
  • AD+D and Life Insurance

At Torc, we're committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We celebrate the uniqueness of our Torc'rs and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, veteran status, or disabilities.
