What is the difference between Nvidia Pcb Design vs PCB Design Engineer?

AspectNvidia Pcb DesignPCB Design Engineer
CredentialsElectronics or Electrical Engineering degree, PCB design certificationsElectronics or Electrical Engineering degree, PCB design certifications
Work EnvironmentHigh-tech hardware development, collaborative teamsElectronics manufacturing, product development teams
Industry UsageSemiconductor, GPU, high-performance computingConsumer electronics, industrial equipment, embedded systems

Both Nvidia Pcb Design and PCB Design Engineer roles require similar technical skills and certifications. Nvidia Pcb Design focuses on designing PCBs specifically for Nvidia's high-performance hardware, while PCB Design Engineers work across various industries. The main difference lies in the specialization within high-tech hardware versus broader electronics applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Nvidia PCB Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Nvidia PCB Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, experience with PCB layout and design principles, and a relevant degree such as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Proficiency with industry-standard tools like Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, and knowledge of signal integrity analysis is typically required. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the creation of reliable, high-performance circuit boards essential for Nvidia's advanced hardware products.

What are some common challenges faced by Nvidia PCB Design Engineers when working on high-speed circuit boards?

Nvidia PCB Design Engineers often encounter challenges such as minimizing signal integrity issues, managing electromagnetic interference (EMI), and ensuring proper thermal management for high-performance components. The complexity of designing multi-layer boards for GPUs requires close collaboration with hardware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to meet strict performance and reliability standards. Staying updated on the latest design tools and fabrication technologies is essential, as is balancing time-to-market pressures with the need for thorough testing and validation.

What is Nvidia PCB Design?

Nvidia PCB Design refers to the process of creating printed circuit boards (PCBs) for Nvidia's hardware products, such as graphics cards and AI accelerators. This involves designing the physical layout of electronic components and interconnections to ensure optimal performance, signal integrity, and manufacturability. PCB designers at Nvidia use specialized software to lay out complex multi-layer boards that meet stringent electrical and thermal requirements. Their work is crucial for translating electronic schematics into reliable, high-performance products used in gaming, data centers, and AI applications.

Job description

We are looking for a creative PCB Design Engineer for the ATE test platform. NVIDIA has continuously reinvented itself for three decades. Our invention of the GPU in 1999 fueled the growth of the PC gaming market, redefined modern computer graphics, and revolutionized parallel computing - with the GPU acting as the brains of computers, robots, and self-driving cars that can perceive and understand the world. Today, we are increasingly known as "the AI computing company." We're looking to grow our company and build our teams with the smartest people in the world. Join us at the forefront of technological advancement.

We need a motivated individual who will help with the design of ATE production and characterization boards for all our products. You will be exposed to various aspects of building and testing NVIDIA products, from GPU/Tegra/Automotive to assembled boards. In addition, your responsibilities will include working with vendors to evaluate new components and/or design processes to increase test coverage and reduce production costs. If you are passionate about building the highest quality products that will change the world, then we really want to hear from you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design ATE production loadboards and other evaluation boards for characterization

  • Work closely with the test engineers and vendors to resolve component and board fabrication and assembly issues

  • Participate in conferences and keep abreast of industry trends

  • Actively participate with cross functional teams including design, SI, high speed characterization, DFT, and ATE test to implement effective test solutions

What we need to see:

  • BSEE or higher withfocus on RF/communication or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in ATE board design

  • Experience working with SI/PI teams to improve performance of high frequency signals

  • Proficiency in Excel with working knowledge of Cadence Allegro, SPICE, PCB impedance calculator and Perl

  • Critical thinking, good communication and collaboration skills

  • Excellent debugging, analytical and technical writing skills

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Experience with Advantest 93k board design

  • Experience with SI/PI simulation flows and tools

  • Familiar with multilayer PCB with complex high speed digital signal routing

  • Strong capability to drive projects and finish qualified design on time
