Job description

About Instead
Instead is reinventing tax technology. We are the first company in decades to receive IRS approval to e-file for Individuals, C Corps, S Corps, Partnerships, and Estates & Trusts. Our platform empowers tax professionals with AI-driven workflows, automated compliance, and seamless integrations.
About the Role
We are hiring two software engineers for our San Francisco office to work on core product features. You will have a direct impact on how tax professionals work - building AI-powered workflows, e-filing systems, and integrations used by thousands of firms.
What You Will Do
  • Build and own features end-to-end across our full-stack platform (Vue.js/Nuxt frontend, Go backend)
  • Work closely with product and design to ship user-facing features
  • Develop and maintain tax calculation engines and e-filing infrastructure
  • Collaborate with a distributed engineering team across SF and India
What We Are Looking For
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React, or similar)
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and CI/CD
  • Product-minded - you care about the user experience, not just the code
  • Ability to work onsite in San Francisco
