This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position in the Bureau of Contract Management and Monitoring. The selected candidate's office location is negotiable for northeastern Florida, central Florida and south Florida.

The mission of the Bureau of Contract Management and Monitoring is to oversee and ensure the effective administration, compliance, and performance of contracts within the organization.

This position is eligible for teleworking. Employees in this role may perform their duties remotely, subject to departmental guidelines and approval.

JOB DUTIES:

The Office of Administration is seeking a Public Health Nutrition Consultant (PHNC) to join our Contract Management and Monitoring Bureau. This position is responsible for monitoring compliance of nutrition and food service policies and procedures for the Department and providing technical assistance.

  • Conducts on-site institutional audits of regional operations.
  • Monitors therapeutic diet compliance, meal preparation, meal service and operational issues in support of the Department's Master Menu and Prescribed Therapeutic Diets.
  • Certifies that the Department's Master Menu and Therapeutic Diet Menus comply with the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences.
  • Provides clinical expertise for procedure and manual updates relating to nutrition.
  • Is the liaison between food service and health service staff and reviews/recommends medical nutrition therapy.
  • Notifies senior management on problems and policies related to program issues.
  • Provides technical assistance, training, and guidance to other Department staff in menu planning, development of appropriate nutritional practices, and food safety and sanitation requirements. Consults with Department staff for possible solutions to problems.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence and work projects that meet the intended objective within the directed time frame, which include but are not limited to monthly diet compliance reports, planned schedules, and facility reviews for assigned facilities.
  • Monitors diet prescriptions for appropriateness and consults with Health Services to ensure the appropriate diet is ordered. If a specialized diet is required, plan and analyze the diet to meet the appropriate medical nutrition therapy guidelines as outlined in the Department of Corrections Diet Manual.
  • Minimal overnight travel may be necessary.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) eligible candidates perform all required job duties and responsibilities under Registered Dietitian Nutritionist supervision and approval. Practice parameters are limited until fully registered.

  • Nutritionist positions require registration with the American Dietetic Association as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and licensing in the State of Florida meeting the requirements outlined in Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes, or applicants should be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 64B8-40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Monitored and evaluated the preparation and service of a menu in an institutional setting (e.g., healthcare, correctional facility, rehabilitation center).

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
