Major Functions:
To regularly monitor cafeterias within The DeSoto County School District to ensure quality control practices and proper policies and procedures are being followed.
Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities may be assigned, including but not limited to:
  1. All duties and responsibilities of the Child Nutrition Team Leader.
  2. Management:
    1. Supervises school meals programs in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
    2. Completes monitoring requirements of administered meals programs.
    3. Regularly audits daily inventory transactions and physical inventory levels.
    4. Reviews production records (Red Book) and reports findings to Director.
    5. Attends required meetings and professional development opportunities.
    6. Monitor site productivity factors and provide recommendations for improvement.
    7. Act as a mediator when needed to resolve work related issues.
    8. Act as a substitute Child Nutrition Team Leader during absences/vacancies.
  3. Preparation:
    1. Assist Child Nutrition Team Leader with physical inventories of all food and supply items.
    2. Ensure Food Buying Guide and other resources are being used to meet menu requirements.
    3. Aid in preparing food & supply orders by required dates provided by Assistant Director.
    4. Ensure that proper procedures are being followed for receiving, storing, handling, preparing, and serving of purchased and donated food according to established standards.
  4. Production:
    1. Offer training to Child Nutrition Team Leaders and Members on following:
      1. Ensure meals are produced following set menus and standardized recipes.
      2. Provide culinary tactics to enhance presentation and reduce production time.
      3. Monitor cooking processes so flavor, appearance, and nutritional value are retained.
      4. Cross-utilize ingredients during cooking process to save time.
      5. Substitute appropriate ingredients during the cooking process to reduce inventory.
  5. Service:
    1. Monitor serving lines and cashier terminals to ensure required regulations are being met.
    2. Promotes customer satisfaction by engaging students and staff.
    3. Audit production records and inventory for proper leftovers utilization.
  6. Supervision:
    1. Assists new Child Nutrition Team Leaders or those on Plans of Improvement achieve goals.
    2. Monitor efficiency of staff members and recommend corrective action to Director.
    3. Assist with job rotation to ensure all staff members are cross-trained.
    4. Provides staff training based on needs of Child Nutrition Team Leaders or assigned by Director.
  7. Cleaning & Sanitation:
  8. Assures that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the school food service operation meet established standards.
  9. Sanitation & Safety:
    1. Ensure HACCP SOP's are current and being followed appropriately.
    2. Assist Child Nutrition Team Leaders receiving a Corrective Action Plan from Health Dept.
    3. Review and report facility issues and safety hazards to Director.
  10. Finance:
    1. Audit End-of-Day reports against Production Records, Deposits, & Actual Production.
  11. Equipment:
  12. Computer, email, telephone, a variety of industrial food production and service equipment, refrigeration and hot food holding equipment, floor care and cleaning products, carts, mops, brooms, dusters, spray bottles, and brushes.
  13. Travel:
  14. Travel to school district buildings and meetings as required.
  15. Move inventory as needed to control cost.
  16. Additional Duties:
  17. Adhere to the Mississippi Code of Ethics.
  18. Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all DeSoto County Schools' records.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. All qualifications of the Child Nutrition Team Leader.
  2. Prior experience as a Child Nutrition Team Leader.
  3. Current and valid, nationally recognized, food handling certificate.
