SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Education Manager, Nutrition Educators will provide localized nutrition and health education in a variety of community settings and environments. Following company and State-instituted policies and curriculum, Nutrition Educators will work to identify partners and opportunities to connect with neighbors in need and provide nutrition and health education relevant to the needs and strategies identified for their assigned Counties. Nutrition Educators will assist in the development of nutrition materials, recipes, cooking demonstrations and videos, and other materials needed to reach targeted audiences. Nutrition Educators will be responsible for tracking and reporting required data and feedback from classes and other community interactions, and will continuously participate in program improvement and strategic planning.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of Feeding Tampa Bay
  • Assist in the design and implementation of Nutrition Education Programs into appropriate Programs sites and other Agency Partners including but not limited to: Child Hunger Programs, Trinity Cafe, Community Empowerment Centers, Agency Partners, MEGA and Mobile Pantry distribution sites, Groceries on the Go, FoodRx and other health care partner programs.
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Education and Programs team to provide localized nutrition education and healthy nudges programming across the food bank network and in conjunction with community partners.
  • Assist in the identification and training of possible Nutrition Education partners
  • Communicate with the Nutrition Education Manager and team to procure and distribute relevant nutrition nudges, recipes, and other program materials and to implement sustainable Foods to Encourage policies and protocols.
  • Effectively utilize internal comprehensive database tracking statistical information on nutrition programs.
  • Assist in the development of tasty, healthful and cost-effective recipes suitable for use in nutrition programs and distribution to food pantries and kitchens.
  • Facilitate cooking demonstrations using Feeding Tampa Bay's (Charlie Cart) Nutrition Kitchen at community events and partner sites.
  • Build and enhance relationships with FTB partner Agencies. Engage community partners and the general public of Feeding Tampa Bay's mission and strategy through presentations. Serve as liaison to community resources for the agency.
  • Assist other Feeding Tampa Bay staff on special projects
  • Cross-train in other areas of the Health Programs Department
  • Demonstrate a pleasant, professional, and helpful attitude at all times
  • Commit to upholding policies, principle,s and best practices for food safety.
  • Work location will primarily be remote, with regular travel within the Educator's assigned coverage areas. Meeting attendance at the FTB main warehouse will be required periodically.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Proficient in navigating and contributing effectively within a fast-paced, evolving public health environment. Demonstrates a commitment to upholding equity and respect in all interactions, aligning with the organization's mission to address hunger and mobilize community resources.
  • Completion of (or currently enrolled in) an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited program, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics (or related field), supplemented by two or more years of relevant field experience (e.g., practicum, internship, or related work).
  • Demonstrated expertise in public speaking, professional training, and group facilitation, with the proven ability to deliver clear, evidence-based nutrition presentations and conduct training sessions for diverse audiences, including professional and community groups.
  • Excellent ability to synthesize and articulate complex information clearly and concisely, both in professional oral and written communication formats (e.g., charting, grant proposals, educational materials).
  • Proven experience engaging and building rapport with low-income and culturally diverse communities. Possesses a fundamental and practical understanding of the social determinants of health and the systemic barriers impacting vulnerable populations seeking nutritional and economic support. Knowledge of or expertise with groups who lack adequate housing is a plus.
  • Ability to work well with non-English speaking populations, in low-income areas, and with children and families, or seniors, etc. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects, taking the initiative to improve the program and smoothly coordinate it while maintaining a very collaborative work style with the Programs Team.
  • Proven ability to manage and document deliverables and data from a number of sources. Spreadsheet skills a must.
  • Ability to work constructively with individuals (agency staff, the public, and volunteers) from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in culturally diverse work environments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word Office and Google Suite.
  • A demonstrated capacity for punctuality in regards to the submission of deliverables and upholding set working hours.
  • Clean driving record; possession of a valid Florida Driver's license and willing to travel as needed across our 10-county service region.
  • Willing to actively participate in mission-driven programs, such as food distribution initiatives and disaster relief operations as needed.
  • This position is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • This position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check.
