Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Nursing Simulation Coordinator supports simulation and skills activities for students enrolled in the School of Nursing (SON) Academic Programs. This individual works with faculty to develop, lead, and implement innovative simulation experiences, along with providing support and mentorship to faculty related to simulation methodologies. This individual is able to operate all simulation technology and works collaboratively with program faculty to innovate and develop the best learning methods in coordination with course requirements. This position works closely with other simulation team members.This position primarily reports to the Associate Dean for Technology and Innovation. This is not a remote position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates and facilitates simulation experiences for students enrolled in SON academic programs
2. Ensures simulation experiences are strategically integrated in response to needs assessments and aligned with programmatic and curricular goals Ensures that the best practices in simulation methodologies are taking place for all simulation experiences
3. Designs and engages in debriefing sessions, promoting self-reflection from students and a safe learning environment
4. Maintains current practices in the most up-to-date standards related to simulation methodologies
5. Leads development, implementation, debriefing, and evaluation of simulation experiences.
6. Evaluates and assesses learner performance as appropriate in simulation experiences.
7. Conducts training for faculty in simulation methodologies
8. Oversees and is knowledgeable about the operation of all mannequins, simulators, and simulation equipment
9. Works collaboratively with other lab coordinators to support day-to-day lab operations
10. Facilitates interprofessional simulation experiences
11. Participates in leading and development of tours for recruiting faculty, prospective students, and high school students as well as guests and other special visitors
12. Develops, implements, and revises simulation policies and procedures individually and in conjunction with faculty related to simulation
13. Facilitates the design of simulation experiences in accordance with accreditation and best practice standards
Manages evaluation data and student outcomes through a quality improvement procedures
14. Manage scheduling and logistics for simulation spaces, equipment, and personnel.
15. Ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and best practices in simulation operations.
16. Maintain accurate records related to simulation activities, equipment usage, and inventory.
17. Maintains and monitors necessary databases; generates and runs reports on data as required
18. Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance simulation operations and learner experiences
19. Stays current with the science of simulation and brings innovation to learner experiences.
20. Models professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and attendance
21. As a faculty member in the SON, this individual participates in continuing professional development and achievement of services goals of the University as appropriate based on rank and tenure status
22. Interacts professionally and courteously with all faculty, students, staff and users of the clinical simulation lab
Develops a program of simulation-related scholarship, collaborates with faculty on dissemination efforts, and engages actively in the professional simulation community
Required Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of a Master's Degree in Nursing, doctorate preferred, and two years of experience working in acute care clinical practice. Current licensure for professional practice in Alabama is required. This position requires someone be innovative, current with simulation standards of best practice, possess a thorough knowledge of accreditation requirements and demonstrates knowledge of clinical skills. To be successful in this role an individual should possess strong organizational, communication, work ethic and interpersonal skills. It is required that this and all faculty maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and FERPA guidelines and policies as well as other UAB and SON published policies, procedures and guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in nursing preferred. Experience working in simulation with students in an academic setting is strongly preferred.
