Position SummaryThe Nurse Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the School’s health services program, ensuring high-quality, student-centered care for both day students and Residential Life boarding students while on campus. This role is responsible for the management and supervision of all nursing staff, the operations of the health centers, and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. The Nurse Manager partners closely with families, consulting physicians, faculty, residential staff, and school leadership to support the health and well-being of students in alignment with the mission of Saint Andrew’s School, and in accordance with Florida Board of Nursing regulations and School policies. This position reports to the Director of Wellness, PK-12 and collaborates with the school’s contracted physician to provide patient care for students.Nurse Manager– Duties and Responsibilities- Provide leadership and supervision to nursing staff, fostering a collaborative, responsive, and student-focused health services team. Serve as back-up nurse for clinic and residential life health services, as needed.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality care by developing, implementing, and interpreting school health policies, and nursing standards in accordance with the Florida Board of Nursing, the Florida Nurse Practice Act, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA, and ensure all required reporting to entities such as the Department of Health and accrediting bodies (e.g. Florida Council of Independent Schools) is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Apply strong clinical risk management principles to proactively identify and mitigate health and safety concerns. Oversee accident and incident reporting and collaborate with school leadership and risk management personnel to ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Monitor health outcomes and departmental performance against established standards; prepare annual reports summarizing health trends, compliance metrics, and program effectiveness.
- Develop, maintain, and regularly update written nursing guidelines and health services policies and procedures, ensuring consistent implementation and staff training.
- Promote and maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming health center environment, including oversight of infection-control protocols, medication administration, storage practices, and controlled substance compliance.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and evaluate nursing and support staff; manage nursing schedules including on-call staffing; support professional growth and maintain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.Â
- Work collaboratively with athletic training staff in support of the care and well-being of student athletes.
- Foster a compassionate and supportive care environment by providing emotional and psychological support to students and coordinating referrals to counselors, clergy, or community providers, as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, administrators, and outside health care providers to ensure coordinated care, while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Partner with academic deans, counselors, learning specialists, and faculty to coordinate care plans and academic accommodations for students whose medical needs impact their school participation.
- Collaborate with faculty and administrators to plan and implement health care coverage and individualized care plans for students participating in off-campus programs, including overnight trips and experiential learning opportunities.
- Participate in the on-call rotation during high-need periods or staffing gaps to ensure appropriate coverage, prevent nurse overscheduling, and support continuity of care in a 24/7 boarding environment (e.g., when nursing staff are on overnight trips).
- Oversee departmental budgeting and financial management, including monitoring expenditures, approving purchases, and managing medical supplies and equipment.
- Maintain confidential student health records and audit documentation to ensure compliance, accuracy, and quality assurance.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of medical and emergency equipment, including inventory oversight and emergency preparedness planning.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and promote evidence-based practice among nursing staff to ensure current clinical knowledge and excellence in care.
- Maintain strong interdisciplinary relationships across the school community through effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrate flexibility and availability to respond to health-related emergencies outside standard school hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
In addition to the nurse manager responsibilities, the Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical care to boarding students within a residential independent school setting. This role partners closely with families, consulting physicians, school leadership, and boarding faculty to support the health and well-being of students in alignment with the mission of Saint Andrew’s School and in accordance with Florida Board of Nursing regulations and School policies.
- Serve as the primary care provider for boarding students, delivering comprehensive, developmentally appropriate care including well-child visits, preventive services, acute and chronic care management, school-entry examinations, and athletic physicals.
- Conduct sick visits and ongoing medical evaluations; assess, diagnose, and treat health conditions consistent with scope of practice.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions as appropriate; monitor treatment effectiveness and adjust care plans as needed.
- Order, interpret, and analyze diagnostic tests; determine need for follow-up appointments, referrals, or additional treatment. Work with insurance companies to obtain appropriate authorizations and referrals.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential electronic health records; review and update patient information at each encounter.
- Provide ongoing health education, counseling, and care coordination for students managing acute or chronic conditions.
- Collaborate regularly with families, consulting pediatricians, and medical specialists to ensure continuity of care.
- Partner with boarding leadership, faculty, and residential staff to support student wellness within the context of residential life.
- Be available for telephone consultation and guidance as needed, particularly in support of boarding and after-hours student health needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor in support of the School’s health services program.
Job Requirements:
- Nurse Practitioner (APRN) licensed in the State of Florida
- BSN required, Master’s preferred
- 5+ years of pediatric and/or adolescent healthcare experience required; pediatric urgent care experience an asset
- 5+ years experience as a nurse administrator/charge nurse, leader, and clinical nurse
- Solid experience creating a safe community healthcare environment
- Outstanding leadership skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and strong work ethicÂ
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment
- Experience in a residential life program preferred

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 25lbs.
