Compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor Needed!

Position Overview:

Substance abuse counselor will be in charge with assisting patients through medically assisting programs and offering techniques for handling opioid addiction. Substance abuse counselor conducts group sessions and individual sessions to assist with crisis management and coping strategies. Additionally, Substance abuse counselor will evaluate patients’ progress during therapy.  Substance abuse counselors may also need to collaborate with doctors, nurses and therapists for patients’ therapy and treatment for best overall outcome.

Responsibilities:

  • Counselor will conduct individual and group counseling sessions. 
  • Coordinate care of assigned patients and present patient status and concerns with treatment team accordingly. 
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and the development and implementation of patient treatment plans according to State regulatory requirements
  • Provide clinical services and patient care and education and opiate addiction counseling services to patients
  • Excellent documentation and computer skills required
  • Other related duties as determined by supervisor

Candidate should have at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in fields like chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with clinical specialization), or a related field with practical experience, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. A plan is required if the experience is not in this setting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in specified fields and 1 year of clinical experience (1,820 hours), preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. A plan is needed if the experience is elsewhere.
  • Associate Degree in specified fields and 2 years of clinical experience (3,640 hours), preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. A plan is required if the experience is in a different setting.
  • Full certification as an addictions counselor from a statewide certification body that is a member of a National certification body or certification by another state government’s substance abuse counseling certification board.
  • Must demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward our patient population 
  • Understanding of an EMR system (electronic medical records)
  • Satisfactory drug screen and criminal background check.
