Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

 

Position Identification

Job Title:  Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practioner (PMNHP)  

Department:  Clinical

Reports To:  President and CMO

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

General Summary

The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing primary care services to patients ages 4/5 to 21, including diagnosing and treating illnesses, prescribing medications, and managing chronic conditions. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

Essential Job Functions

  • Evaluate patients and prescribe medication and treatments as professional license allows.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to license scope.
  • Order lab and x-ray test as indicated.
  • Diagnose health conditions and diseases
  • Analyze and interpret test results and contact patients as necessary regarding such results.
  • Contact pharmacies to authorize prescribed medication for patients
  • Educate parents how to care for and what to expect from well and sick children, providing accurate and up to date information.
  • Consult with physicians when in doubt related to direct patient care matters, especially referrals to specialist

Qualifications/Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program
  • Current APRN license in the state of Florida
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an APRN in a primary care setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Seeing: Must be able to see well enough to read emails, documents, reports, etc.
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with other staff, clients, vendors, etc.
  • Standing/Walking: Must be able to move about the office, including up and down stairs
  • Climbing/stooping/kneeling: Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up small items, file documents, etc.
  • Lifting/pulling/pushing: Minimal lifting required in this position
