The RN Informatics Team Member plays a critical role in optimizing and supporting the Epic EHR (Electronic Health Record) system. This position combines clinical nursing expertise with information technology skills to ensure Epic applications meet the needs of clinical staff, improve patient care, and enhance healthcare operations. Under the direct supervision of the IT Applications Manager, the RN Informatics Team Member will collaborate closely with clinicians, IT teams, and Epic support staff to improve workflows, ensure system functionality, and provide endโ€‘user support.

This role is ideal for a clinically experienced registered nurse (RN) with a keen interest in healthcare informatics and a strong understanding of EHR systems, specifically Epic. The RN Informatics Team Member will participate in the design, configuration, testing, and ongoing optimization of Epic EHR modules, ensuring they align with clinical needs and operational goals.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Change champions for all new implementations and enhancements to clinical workflows.
  • Facilitate communication with operations to analyze and convert end-user feedback into optimized and effective solutions.
  • Serve as the escalation contact between operations and support teams to resolve issues or provide status updates.
  • Coordinate with internal IT and our Community Connect host on projects ensuring that implementations adhere to deadlines with high quality.
  • Provide technical assistance to users to address issues, and report system needs promptly to the applicable team.
  • Problemโ€‘solve application issues and work through challenges to achieve optimal results by collaborating effectively with end users, leadership, and IT.
  • Identify issues and decision points in system design, operational workflow, system implementation, and support.
  • Participate in system and integration testing phases of system module functionality.
  • Provide daily atโ€‘theโ€‘elbow support to facilitate and promote end user adoption of order entry and documentation within the electronic system.
  • Participate in supporting, monitoring, and evaluating staff documentation tools and processes.
  • Provide daily onโ€‘site rounding, troubleshooting, and user support/education.
  • Works collaboratively with Epic trainers in the development, coordination and implementation of user training and support strategies.
  • Document issues, options, resolutions, communications, testing, and problem identification utilizing established formats.
  • Develop and maintain organized documentation and share information with team members.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance by staying abreast of current trends and regulations in the IT and healthcare industries.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

Required: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelorโ€™s degree in nursing (ADN/BSN) preferred. At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Preferred: BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Experience with Epic EHR or other healthcare IT systems.

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations

Required: Current RN Oregon licensure. BSN required; MSN preferred. Informatics certification, board certification or masterโ€™s in informatics within 1 year of hire. Epic proficiency required within six months of hire.

Preferred: Certification in Nursing Informatics (e.g., through HIMSS or ANCC). Additional Epic certifications depending on the role focus.

Experience

Required: A minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ relevant work experience in a healthcare system. A minimum of 3 yearsโ€™ experience utilizing and/or supporting Epic applications.

Preferred: Experience in healthcare informatics or working with EHR systems in a clinical support role. Experience in nursing informatics or clinical informatics position is a plus.

  • Able to work across both Inpatient and Ambulatory settings, Primary Care and Specialty.
  • Prior Epic or other clinical information system design/build/implementation experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting light office items (up to 25 pounds). Visual acuity to view computer screens and read detailed financial documents. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. May be required to move throughout the healthcare facility, including administrative and clinical areas.

Working Conditions: This position operates in a professional office setting within a healthcare facility. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The office environment is climate-controlled, well-lit, and ergonomically designed for extended computer work. While this role is primarily office-based and does not involve direct patient care, the employee may occasionally be present in clinical areas or interact with staff working in clinical environments. As such, there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases. The organization provides appropriate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed to ensure safety.
