Mission of role

We’re looking for a hands-on Operations Manager to lead day-to-day airline catering operations at PDX in Portland, Oregon, ensuring flights are built on schedule, service levels are met, and cross-functional teams perform safely and efficiently in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.

This role oversees multiple departments, partners closely with supervisors and leadership, resolves operational issues proactively, and helps drive KPI performance, team development, and client satisfaction while serving as a strong growth opportunity for internal talent.

You’ll be a key operational leader and a trusted backup to the General Manager when needed.

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Conduct hourly production audits, review production with department supervisors, and identify potential delays before they impact service.
  • Monitor flight-build progress against the production schedule, identify shortages, and escalate potential flight delays to the appropriate manager.
  • Track labor hours for overtime and request supervisor approvals as needed to support coverage and productivity targets.
  • Provide direction and support to supervisors to ensure shift goals are executed and client deadlines are met on time.
  • Develop action plans and countermeasures, assign responsibility, and follow up with supervisors and associates to validate task completion.
  • Lead shift meetings, summarize production progress and issues for leadership, and maintain strong communication with the client on service, performance, and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Shipping and Receiving to audit shipment logs, ensure on-time departures, and prevent discrepancies.
  • Support purchasing, billing, fleet maintenance records, compliance processes, and HR-related duties including interviewing, onboarding, and job instructions
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as the role may require driving company vehicles and supporting flight catering operations when staffing shortages or operational needs arise.

Qualifications & Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Supply Chain, Logistics Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in operations management, preferably in a 24/7 environment managing multiple departments.
  • Experience building teams, coaching supervisors and associates, and improving retention and performance.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to foster relationships with staff, leadership, and customers at all levels.
  • Experience with KPI-driven operations, Microsoft Office, timekeeping systems, and handling HR-sensitive documentation with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently in a fast-paced airport, production, and warehouse environment.
