How much do nuclear physics remote jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for nuclear physics remote in the United States is $51.91, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $39.18 and $62.50 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are nuclear physics remote jobs?

Nuclear physics remote jobs are positions in the field of nuclear physics that can be performed from a location outside of a traditional laboratory or office, often from home or another remote location. These roles typically involve theoretical research, computational modeling, data analysis, or educational outreach, rather than hands-on experimental work. Advances in technology and collaboration tools have made it possible for nuclear physicists to contribute to research projects, publish papers, and participate in international collaborations remotely.

What is the difference between Nuclear Physics Remote vs Nuclear Engineering Remote?

AspectNuclear Physics RemoteNuclear Engineering Remote
Required CredentialsPhysics degrees, research experience, possibly PhDEngineering degrees, certifications like PE, practical design experience
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, academic institutions, remote research projectsDesign firms, consulting, remote project management
Industry UsageResearch, academia, government labsPower plants, safety analysis, engineering design

While both roles involve nuclear science, Nuclear Physics Remote focuses on theoretical research and fundamental physics, often in academic or research settings. Nuclear Engineering Remote emphasizes practical engineering applications, safety, and design in the nuclear industry. The credentials, work environment, and industry usage differ, making each role distinct despite their shared focus on nuclear science.

How does working remotely in a nuclear physics role affect collaboration and access to specialized equipment?

Remote nuclear physicists often collaborate with research teams via video conferencing, shared data platforms, and virtual lab meetings. While day-to-day tasks like data analysis, simulation, and report writing can be performed remotely, direct access to experimental equipment may be limited. Many organizations offer scheduled on-site access or partnerships with local institutions when hands-on work is necessary. Strong communication and proactive coordination are essential for remote nuclear physicists to stay engaged with their teams and contribute effectively to ongoing projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Nuclear Physicist working remotely, and why are they important?

To excel as a remote Nuclear Physicist, you need a solid background in nuclear physics or a related field, typically with a Ph.D. and strong analytical and mathematical skills. Familiarity with computational modeling software, data analysis tools (such as MATLAB or Python), and remote collaboration platforms is essential. Outstanding problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective written communication help you stand out, especially when working independently or with distributed teams. These skills ensure accurate research, effective collaboration, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to complex projects from a remote environment.

Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for PhD-level professionals experienced in theoretical physics, string theory, quantum field theory, particle physics, nuclear physics, advanced problem design, and structured scientific evaluation.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on advanced physics problem creation, theoretical reasoning review, technical writing, research-informed task development, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply their physics expertise to create difficult problems in their specialized domain, evaluate technical reasoning, prepare structured written outputs, and support accurate, evidence-based physics workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Professionals in this role may contribute to:

Advanced Physics Problem Creation

  • Create difficult, domain-specific problems in string theory, quantum field theory, particle physics, nuclear physics, or closely related areas
  • Develop problems that require rigorous reasoning, technical accuracy, mathematical formalism, and deep subject matter understanding
  • Write clear reference solutions, expected reasoning paths, and structured answer explanations
  • Ensure submitted work reflects strong domain knowledge and high-quality scientific standards

Theoretical Reasoning & Technical Review

  • Review physics outputs for correctness, clarity, completeness, and reasoning quality
  • Evaluate assumptions, derivations, mathematical steps, physical interpretation, and conclusions against domain-specific standards
  • Identify reasoning gaps, unsupported conclusions, ambiguity, and expected technical outcomes
  • Provide structured feedback that improves task quality and evaluation consistency

Research-Informed Task Development

  • Apply PhD-level physics training to design challenging tasks grounded in advanced theoretical and mathematical concepts
  • Translate complex domain expertise into clear, structured, evaluable task formats
  • Follow detailed project instructions and complete technical assignments with accuracy and sustained focus
  • Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted work

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • PhD in Physics with specialization in string theory, quantum field theory, particle physics, nuclear physics, or a closely related field
  • Graduate degree from a U.S., U.K., Canadian, Western European, or comparable research university
  • Strong command of advanced theoretical physics, mathematical formalism, derivations, and rigorous scientific reasoning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical judgment
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and produce rigorous technical outputs independently

Educational Background

  • PhD in Physics is strongly preferred
  • Research experience, academic publications, postdoctoral work, teaching experience, or advanced technical writing experience is highly relevant
  • Equivalent high-level research experience in theoretical physics, particle physics, nuclear physics, or closely related fields may also be valuable depending on project scope

Nice to Have

  • Experience creating advanced problem sets, graduate-level teaching materials, benchmark-style questions, or technical assessments
  • Background in research, peer review, academic publishing, scientific writing, or university-level instruction
  • Strong familiarity with mathematical notation, derivations, proof-style reasoning, computational physics, or domain-specific modeling tools
  • Ability to explain complex physics concepts clearly and precisely
  • Availability to complete approximately 4โ€“6 rigorous tasks per week during active project periods
