Job description

About NANO Nuclear Energy
NANO Nuclear Energy (NASDAQ: NNE) is an advanced nuclear technology company developing the KRONOS Micro Modular Reactor (MMR)-a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK), completely meltdown-proof, high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. We are actively scaling our internal deployment and construction division to execute our flagship commercial demonstration project at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
Overview
NANO Nuclear Energy is seeking a highly experienced Head of Nuclear Procurement to secure the critical supply chain for the KRONOS MMR. As we advance toward deployment, we require a strategic sourcing expert who deeply understands the nuclear manufacturing landscape. Your immediate mandate is to secure our long-lead critical path components. You will work hand-in-hand with our Lead Scheduler, Product Lifecycle Manager (PLM), and the VP of Operations to translate engineering designs into actionable bid packages. Furthermore, you will serve as the primary driver of our vendor management system within Microsoft Dynamics 365, leading the evaluation and negotiation of contracts for the UIUC project and all future KRONOS fleet deployments.
Responsibilities
  • Bid Specification Development & Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate closely with the Lead Scheduler and PLM to extract precise Bill of Materials (BOM) from Siemens Teamcenter. Take raw design specifications from the and engineering teams to assist in the final review, generation, and issuance of formal bid packages.
  • Market Engagement & Dynamics 365 Tracking: Leverage deep industry knowledge to distribute bid specs to an elite network of tier-1 vendors. Build strong communication channels and relationships while utilizing Microsoft Dynamics 365 as the foundational operating system to track quotes, manage vendor interactions, and securely maintain compliance artifacts within the SharePoint Government Community Cloud (GCC) High Vault.
  • Vendor Evaluation & Decision Matrixing: Collect vendor bids and construct detailed decision matrices (leveraging Dynamics 365 and Excel). Weigh critical factors such as cost, delivery time, historical track record, and technical compliance in direct collaboration with the VP of Operations to select the optimal suppliers.
  • Contract Negotiation & Scaling: Lead the final negotiation of commercial terms, milestone payments, and contracts for the UIUC demonstration project. Establish a replicable, scalable supply chain framework for all future KRONOS reactor deployments.
  • Long-Lead Strategic Sourcing: Spearhead the immediate procurement strategy and execution for critical path, long-lead components, specifically the reactor pressure vessel, steam generator, containment vessel, and nuclear fuel sourcing frameworks.
  • QA & NQA-1 Collaboration: Partner closely with the independent Quality Assurance (QA) team to facilitate vendor pre-qualification. While the QA team will execute the formal ASME NQA-1 audits and hold the necessary inspection credentials, you will drive the commercial evaluation of suppliers to ensure alignment with strict regulatory and project standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Procurement Expertise: 7+ years of complex, high-dollar procurement and contract negotiation experience in the commercial nuclear, naval nuclear propulsion, or highly regulated heavy aerospace sectors.
  • Regulatory Familiarity: Strong functional knowledge of ASME NQA-1 standards, quality assurance tracking, and the broader domestic nuclear supply chain landscape. (Note: Active NQA-1 auditor credentials are not required for this role).
  • Vendor Management: Proven track record of selecting, managing, and holding Tier-1 heavy industrial suppliers accountable to tight tolerances, strict safety parameters, and aggressive schedules, working seamlessly alongside QA personnel.
  • Technical Acumen: High proficiency in interpreting complex engineering specifications, schematics, and BOMs to effectively evaluate vendor bids and capabilities without requiring constant engineering intervention.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry Network: Existing relationships with elite domestic metallurgical suppliers and vendors boasting proven Naval Nuclear or commercial fleet track records.
  • Software Familiarity: Working knowledge of enterprise PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE) and early-stage integration with the Microsoft Dynamics 365 ecosystem.
  • Advanced Contracting: Experience structuring customized milestone payments, liquidated damages (LDs), and complex dispute resolution processes for FOAK hardware and systems.

What We Offer
  • A collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation and technical excellence.
  • Opportunities for mentorship, professional growth, and technical leadership.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a cleaner, more reliable energy future.
  • Competitive medical, dental, vision and life insurance with generous company contributions.
  • Company 401(k) plan with 5% match.
  • Unlimited PTO policy with company holidays and paid parental leave.

Equal Opportunity Employer
