What You Will Do
NCERC-FO is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Nuclear Facility Engineer to support operations at NCERC. This position will (1) support LANL project, engineering, and maintenance activities at NCERC in Nevada, (2) perform Fissionable Material Handling duties, and (3) provide miscellaneous support services in a Hazard Category 2 Nuclear Facility.
Primary responsibilities include:

• Assist NCERC systems engineers in Conduct of Engineering activities.
• Support nuclear operations through preparation and staging of experimental equipment.
• Execute hands-on manipulation of special nuclear material, maintenance of critical assembly machines, and equipment setup in support of future operations.
• Adhere to, apply, and enforce LANL and NNSS M&O contractor policies, programs, procedures, and practices.
• Perform various project support tasks to include decontamination activities, escorting customers and visitors, etc.
• Coordinate NCERC activities with adjacent organizations, synchronizing schedules for maximum efficiency.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

• Knowledge in the areas of mechanical, electrical, and/or nuclear engineering.
• Ability to perform hands-on activities related to equipment testing and maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate multiple project schedules into an executable plan with respect to personnel, equipment, and facility availability.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to colleagues, management, and sponsors.
• Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and make decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgment, work under time constraints, work with minimal supervision and prioritize workload.

Education: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

• Awareness of nuclear facility engineering principles and procedures, guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
• Experience with project management.
• Experience developing detailed schedules.
• Active Q clearance.

Work Environment:
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Las Vegas, Nevada with the NCERC Organization. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Where You Will Work
Permanently located in Las Vegas, Nevada, the NCERC-FO Organization, provides the capability to conduct hands-on and remotely operated experiments with significant quantities of nuclear material to a variety of national security programs. This capability, which became operational in 2010, supports both critical and subcritical experiments and training. NCERC-FO provides the operational backbone for the National Criticality Experiments Research Center (NCERC). NCERC operates four criticality assemblies that can be broadly categorized as benchmark, fast-burst, and general-purpose assemblies. These assemblies provide the capability to perform critical, subcritical, and fundamental physics measurements. The NCERC is operated within a hazard category 2 nuclear facility located at the Nevada National Security Site.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
