Job Summary:

Salas O’Brien has been working with the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) of Carnegie Mellon University on the design of a Concrete Mat Laying Robotics System for use in the marine industry by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 2025, the project is advancing from design and testing to full-scale production and implementation.

The project will have a significant impact to traffic on the Mississippi River and provide a much safer work environment.

We are seeking an Electrical Technician to work with a team of engineers and designers to provide technical support to the production phase and final system testing and development.

The successful candidate will assume significant responsibility for delivering novel capabilities of national significance. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with unique advanced sensors, communication systems, and unmanned platforms. The candidate will be supported with first-rate hardware, test infrastructure, talented peers, and a work environment that values excellence, continuous learning, and work-life balance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble Large Electrical Robotics Systems. Install various electrical components, motors, sensors, and subsystems to the larger robotics system. Repair wiring and route electrical components as needed.
  • Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to ensure proper production. Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, primarily electrical redline, and system testing reports.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures and rules.
  • Provide Electrical Technician support for large scale robotics testing and operational trials. Repair downed systems, replace defective parts, debug any electrical impediments.
  • Install and troubleshoot electrical systems, encoders, and cabling following electrical codes.
  • Diagnose and build electrical sub-panels and electrical cabinets.
  • Route cabling on large robotics systems.
  • Read and troubleshoot basic PLC programming.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
  • Troubleshoot failed automation equipment as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 2 - 5 years' experience in Industrial Automation, Manufacturing, or Robotics.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, mechanical and electrical schematics, and bill of materials.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Be comfortable in an R&D environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%.
  • Electro-mechanical assembly skills.
  • Ability to work on High Voltage Electrical Systems.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic tooling.
  • Ability to build R&D cabling harnesses as needed.

Location: Lockport, LA

Compensation:

The expected base salary range for this role is starting at $40.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
