Together with our partners and participants, we cultivate communities where people are progressively seen, accepted, challenged, and supported.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The primary responsibilities are to provide security and programming support to the Ft. Myers Shelter program by monitoring the shelter front desk and assisting with administrative duties. Excellent surveillance and emergency response skills are required as well as a strong commitment to security policies and basic knowledge of threats to safety. Individual must be organized and possess strong personnel and professional boundaries. Must be skilled in conflict resolution and be able to demonstrate the same. Individual must demonstrate a positive attitude and be willing to work together with team members.
St. Matthew's House is a faith based 501ยฉ(3) charitable organization that exists to transform lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
  • Implement security policies, protocols and procedures
  • Work a variety of shifts which may include second and third shifts, as well as weekends
  • Enters accurate objective documentation into the resident management system
  • Coordinate with staff when responding to emergencies and alarms and reports on incidents and breaches of security
  • Investigate and resolve security issues
  • Performs regular security checks of the facility and surrounding areas to ensure that the facility is secured
  • Has knowledge of all guidelines located in the security operations manual and shelter handbook and holds residents accountable to the guidelines
  • Checks daily to ensure residents' living areas are properly maintained and in compliance with Shelter guidelines
  • Performs random bed checks to make sure that all residents are accounted for when providing overnight shift coverage
  • Administers random drug screens on residents as required
  • Sorts hygiene supplies and donations into the appropriate storage containers
  • Completes discharge of residents, as needed, with accurate information
  • Removes and stores discharged residents' personal items per program guidelines
  • Provides transportation for residents to appropriate appointments and events in the company vehicle
  • Has knowledge of the phone system and how to transfer calls
  • Properly screen individuals who are attempting to enter the shelter after hours
  • Assist and support the intake department with various tasks as needed
  • Treats all residents and guests with respect and exercises appropriate boundaries with residents
  • Pray with residents and staff as opportunities are available
  • Completes all job duties with St. Matthew's House core values as the guiding principle

Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Proven experience in security procedures or similar position. A minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals who are homeless or suffering from addiction.
Confidentiality: Works with highly confidential information.
Mental/Visual Demands: Flow of work requires normal mental and visual capabilities.
Physical Demand: Must be able to stand for a minimum of 4 hours at a time and lift at least 50 pounds. Must be able to bend or kneel to the ground.
