Job description

Academy Bus is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic- Road Service. The position is based out of our Secaucus, NJ facility and will operate a full equipped service truck and provide field service to our Newark Airport operations as well as other locations as needed. You will be responsible for the uptime and reliability of our transit fleet, including Nova, New Flyer, and Eldorado buses. This role requires a hands-on expert who can diagnose complex issues on-site and ensure our buses meet the highest safety standards.

Earn $28.00-$34.00 per hour. Pay rate commensurate with experience level.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use Cummins diagnostic software and other computerized equipment to identify engine, transmission, and system failures.

Maintenance & Repair: Perform high-level repairs on diesel engines, fuel systems, and exhaust aftertreatment systems.

System Analysis: Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics to trace faults in complex transit bus systems.

Component Replacement: Efficiently replace failed mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.

Field Support: Provide rapid-response technical support within the Newark Airport perimeter to minimize fleet downtime.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 4 years in diesel mechanics, specifically with transit or motorcoach fleets (Nova, New Flyer, or Eldorado experience preferred).

Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Cummins Insite or similar diagnostic platforms and a deep understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Problem-Solving: Exceptional ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues under pressure.

Professionalism: A strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and ongoing professional development/certification.

Requirements: Must possess a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) and hand tools necessary to perform field repairs.
