Position Overview

The Custodian plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, safe, and clean environment for all who attend and serve at Northside. This role ensures that the church facilities are consistently clean, sanitized, and presentable for worship services, events, and ministry activities. This role requires flexibility, with some weekend and evening hours, and calls for an individual who is skilled, dependable, and service-minded.


Job Duties

  • Perform cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Clean and restock restrooms to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the building.
  • Clean glass, windows, and doors for a polished appearance.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and communicate needs for restocking.
  • Follow safety procedures when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Assist with light maintenance tasks as assigned by the Facilities Director
  • Report any damages, repairs, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Support the overall mission of the church by maintaining a welcoming and clean facility for the congregation and staff.

Education and Experience

  • Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong personal faith and alignment with the core values and mission of Northside (C3 Faithfulness as outlined below).
  • Ability to discern needs and respond proactively and sensitively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing time effectively to complete tasks independently or as part of a team, maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
  • A commitment to serving the church and a passion for supporting its ministry efforts.
