We are looking for an experienced non-profit Controller to support a contract engagement with a client in Washington, District of Columbia. This Contract position will oversee core accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and deliver reliable reporting that supports business decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on leadership in close activities, and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the monthly close process, ensuring timelines are met and financial results are recorded accurately.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account analyses, and supporting schedules to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Oversee accounts payable activities to help ensure proper coding, approvals, and timely vendor payments.
• Manage Form 1099 preparation and related year-end reporting requirements in compliance with applicable regulations.
• Produce recurring and ad hoc financial reports that provide clear insight into operating performance and financial position.
• Support budgeting activities by compiling financial data, monitoring variances, and assisting with forecast updates.
• Proven experience serving in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role within a non-profit environment.
• CPA preferred
• Strong background in month-end close, including journal entry preparation and financial statement review.
• Demonstrated expertise in balance sheet reconciliations and identifying accounting discrepancies.
• Practical knowledge of accounts payable processes and year-end Form 1099 reporting.
• Experience preparing budgets, analyzing variances, and contributing to financial planning activities.
