Accepting applications for Volunteer/Unpaid entry-level Driver/Aide/EMT position(s) at Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. (UVES).UVES is the 9-1-1 EMS provider to the Town of Union. UVES is seeking individuals who are committed to the overall success and continued growth of emergency medical services. The right candidate will be an individual who can demonstrate professionalism and a desire for personal growth in the healthcare industry. Candidates; minimally; should be highly motivated, creative, self-starting, team-oriented, ethical, respectful, and committed to community success.For more information on our community and organization, please visit: www.unionems.comBenefitsTraining allowancesUniformsPosition Summary:Provides basic and advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by SREMS/Medical Control Physician in accordance with locally approved treatment protocols through the performance of acquired skills pertinent to the NYS level of the provider. Provides exemplary emergency medical services with care and compassion by performing these duties personally enabling UVES to become the premier emergency service organization providing revolutionary care and exceptional service.Position Responsibilities:Provide direct patient care while operating from an ambulance, first response vehicle, field hospital, or other designated units.Be responsible for and assist with the proper care and treatment of all sick and injured persons found within the organization's designated response area as well as in any mutual aid districtTreat and transport, or assist with the treatment and transport of all patients in accordance with current organizational, regional, and state standards as outlined in their current manuals or protocol books which shall include but not be limited to:Assessing the nature and extent of illness and injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or the need to request additional assistanceAdministers initial treatment at an emergency scene:Takes and records a patient's vital signsPerforms CPRRestores and stabilizes heart rhythm in pulseless, non-breathing patientsPerforms other skills within the scope of practice as neededAssists in extricating trapped victimsInitiates advanced life support procedures as authorized by the medical director including but not limited to: Cardiac monitoring and defibrillationIntravenous therapyMedication administrationEndotracheal intubation and other advanced airway skillsTransports sick and injured persons to appropriate treatment centersObserves, record, and report to the receiving physician the patient's condition and reaction to treatment as well as significant incidents related to the patient's careCommunicates with the hospital, physician, and other medical personnel either in person, by telephone, or by radioOperates the ambulance with due diligence to the scene and/or hospitalPrepares required reports and completes other shift paperwork as assignedEnsures all vehicles are properly stocked and in organizational readiness at all times by performing daily vehicle and equipment checksFunction as trainer or preceptor as necessaryPerform or assist with promotional or public relations activities as neededRequisitions and restocks supplies, materials, and equipmentPerforms other jobs and related duties as assigned/directedQualifications:Experience/EducationHigh school graduate or GED (required), Associates Degree desiredNYS Certified EMT or AEMTNational Registry of EMT Certification desiredCurrent Drivers LicenseOne year of patient care experience as a first responder, healthcare worker, lifeguardAmerican Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS, or equivalent certificationsClassification: Volunteer/ Unpaid
