Job description

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Dietitian, the Diet Office Clerk is to take patient calls who are ordering meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks. This position will also perform clerical duties relating to clinical nutrition for our patients and residents as well as focusing on menu correction.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare dietary information for use by kitchen personnel in preparation of foods for hospital patients
  • Examine diet orders and menus received from hospital units and tallies portions and foods of general soft diets
  • Tally quantities of specific foods, such as vegetables and meats, to be prepared in the kitchen; marks tallies on master menu to inform kitchen personnel of food requirements
  • Answer telephone and intercom calls and relay information to kitchen concerning meal changes, complaints, or patient discharge
  • Communicate patient needs to appropriate staff while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as required
Education/Experience Requirements

Required: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent  or relevant experience


Preferred: 

  • 0-1 year of experience in a healthcare, food service setting
