COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Assistant will assist management, monitor guests, and promote a safe and secure environment.


CORE WORK PRINCIPLE: Colossians 3:23 is the foundation of URM's standard for employment, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people." and Galations 5:13 "Serve one another humbly in love." ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain accurate and up to date guest and program records in Mission Tracker daily. 
  • Prepares and maintains incident reports, daily correspondence, and other supporting documentation to meet operational needs.
  • Assist with intake, discharge, and orientation processes, as requested.
  • Regularly monitor residential floors in accordance with program guidelines and expectations. 
  • Conducts property, room, and bed inspections, as needed.
  • Administer drug testing for guests, as needed.
  • Follow established protocols for medical emergencies and unusual or disruptive activity.
  • Intervenes and de-escalates volatile and hostile situations on the premises, coordinating with security and emergency personnel as needed.
  • Serves as a mandated reporter for DCFS and APS in accordance with reporting requirements.
  • Attend mandatory scheduled department/team meetings.
  • Additional duties may vary by location which can include mail sorting and delivery, guest transportation in a company vehicle, meal service, volunteer coordination, front desk and reception coverage, and chaperoning children.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to allow differently abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Manual dexterity required for reaching, lifting objects, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs. 
  • Standing and walking may vary up to 75% of the shift.
  • Travel as required.

The office is clean, orderly, properly lit, and ventilated.

Requirements

QUALITIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year prior experience in a related field performing similar duties (social services, community relations, non-profits, etc.)
  • A valid driver's license is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to learn proprietary computer programs.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and a strong ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment.
  • Fluency in Spanish, a plus. 
  • Ability to conduct responsibilities without direct supervision.
  • Ability to be added to the company vehicle insurance policy, required.
