Introduction
The Quantum Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Sr. Section Manager) role is a technical and people leadership position. This role is responsible for developing and maturing novel materials and process technologies that enable emerging quantum hardware platforms. The position bridges advanced materials research, semiconductor process development, and manufacturing readiness, translating early-stage technology concepts into process solutions suitable for scalable platforms. This role combines deep hands-on technical expertise with team leadership to drive execution across advanced process modules and materials relevant to quantum technologies.
Job Summary
As a Sr. Section Manager, this role leads a team of process engineers focused on materials and process technology development for quantum applications. The position is responsible for developing, characterizing, and optimizing novel materials and process modules while ensuring alignment with manufacturability, yield, and performance requirements. The role works cross-functionally with integration, device, and design enablement teams to translate process innovations into scalable semiconductor solutions.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead development of advanced materials and process technologies supporting emerging quantum computing platforms.
  • Manage and develop a team of process engineers, fostering a high-performance and collaborative engineering environment.
  • Design and execute process experiments across semiconductor manufacturing modules including PVD, ALD, CMP, etch, implant, and lithography.
  • Evaluate and optimize materials systems relevant to quantum technologies, including superconducting metals.
  • Develop and implement materials characterization methodologies to assess film quality, interfaces, defects, and performance.
  • Establish and apply statistical process control (SPC) methods to ensure process stability, repeatability, and yield optimization.
  • Drive process integration readiness by collaborating with integration and device teams to ensure compatibility across modules and system requirements.
  • Analyze process and characterization data to identify key performance drivers, variability sources, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support transition of new processes from development to manufacturing, ensuring scalability and robustness in production environments.
  • Document process flows, experimental results, and technical learnings to support knowledge transfer and long-term technology development.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: BS or MS in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in semiconductor process development, materials engineering, or advanced manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with semiconductor fabrication processes and materials characterization techniques
  • Experience with statistical analysis and process control methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams or supervise engineering staff
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving and effective communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cryogenic electronics or low-temperature materials behavior
  • Familiarity with materials used in quantum technologies (e.g., superconductors, photonic materials, spintronic or topological materials)
  • Experience supporting emerging or non-traditional semiconductor platforms
  • Experience working in advanced R&D or technology development environments
  • Exposure to quantum computing hardware or advanced device architectures

Expected Salary Range
