Function / Position Summary
Provides managerial oversight for the District for the capital projects as assigned. Responsible for ensuring projects are conducted in a timely manner as set forth in the construction documents, including administration, completion and financial outcomes of all capital project related documentation. Verify that Contractors and Consultants are completing projects and meeting defined milestones as outlined by the project plan and by the Plant Operations Department's Director or designee. Serve as liaison between Principals, School Staff, U-46 Staff, and Plant Operations Department to ensure timely completion of the assigned project. Travel within the District and surrounding areas is required.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Participate in all phases (planning, scheduling, and managing) of the design and construction process.
  • Attend weekly construction meetings and follow up on assigned capital projects and owner issues.
  • Serve as liaison between Architecture Firm Representative, Consultants, District Staff, School Staff and Contractors to address owner's concerns and schedule.
  • Maintain budget integrity on each project for School Board review.
  • Track and report on project progress within the timeline set up in construction documents.
  • Verify all closeout documents in all phases of projects to ensure proper procedures are followed and properly documented in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with District Departments throughout each project to assure buildings are cleaned, equipped, safe and ready for use by students and staff as scheduled.
  • Manage the department's services and materials contracts for compliance and accuracy.
  • Obtain project bids and quotes and prepare a proposal for approval from the District School Board.
  • Maintain organized files, emails and other correspondences, and track any required records of current departmental contracts for departmental projects.
  • Maintain departmental forms and spreadsheets.
  • Attend Board of Education meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
  • Possess a valid Illinois Driver's License.

Experience / Knowledge
  • Previous construction management experience within a school district strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, roofing, civil and low-voltage projects.
  • Ability to set goals and establish methods of achieving them.
  • Previous administrative budget development and management experience.
  • Commercial construction experience in all phases of construction.
  • Experience in reading, understanding blueprints, construction drawings, bids, specifications and other related construction documents.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and problem solve simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates understanding of construction contracts, pay requests, change orders, and other typical AIA Documents and Forms.
  • Previous construction site supervision, management and review experience.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and MicroSoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Software and MicroSoft Project.

Physical Demands
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • May be required to respond to emergency crisis situations.
  • Endure construction site conditions such as noise, dust, heat, cold, heights, and other construction site factors
  • Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the workday.
  • Ability to maneuver around construction sites: including, climb ladders, and inspect construction spaces.
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, lift 50 lbs. or more with proper technique, and walk for extended periods of time.

Terms of Employment
  • This is a 12-month, non-union position.
  • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of education.
  • The salary range for this position is $66,260.00 - $99,391.00. Our typical practice is to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($82,826.00).
  • Flexible schedule may require nights and weekend availability.
