Data Center Construction MEP Estimator - Chicago, IL
This opportunity is with a leading general contractor of data center construction services. This company provides a complete life cycle of solutions that are custom-fit to the requirements of their client's mission-critical facilities. They build mission-critical facilities for data center facilities nationwide for Enterprise, Colocation and Hyperscale Companies. The MEP Estimator will support projects and will collaborate with other Estimators, clients and suppliers to prepare and complete bid / submittals for electrical construction projects. This role will follow company standards and strategy for pursuing estimates that fall within company's parameters. The candidate will have overall responsibility for the delivery of estimations for customers on time and in line with project scopes that meet quality meet Company Design Standards and the objectives set for the project. The successful candidate will have to be exceptionally organized and be great with back-office work.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate and timely electrical construction estimates on which we base competitive bids and proposals for our client-base of General Contractors, Owners, Developers and end-users
  • Determine and price value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications
  • Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narrative
  • Draft scope letters, proposals and vendor solicitations
  • Attend job walks; pre-bid meetings; collaborations and conferences with clients and design professionals
  • Follow Best Practices for the Estimating Department
  • Development and maintenance of computerized estimating programs and databases
  • Follow company standards for estimating electrical design / build and plans and specs work. Compile final bid packages for review by Executive and Project Teams
  • Review estimates created by others for accuracy and completeness
  • Perform job handoffs from estimating to operations through clearly demonstrating detailed scopes of work, specifications and job specific conditions.
  • Follow procedures for the preparation of estimates for modifications and additions
  • Prepare of estimates in accordance with the approved procedure for all phases of the works from the agreed engineering deliverables to the appropriate level of accuracy
  • Prepare rationale statements to support the estimate identifying areas of weakness and or areas of risk.
  • Carry out validation and verification of the estimates using high level norms and by comparing with previous estimates, outcome costs and vendor prices
  • Lead estimating team, lead estimating team meetings, and assist when needed in training, developing, of junior staff of estimators qualified to carry out departmental and project needs.
  • Review contractual documents and modifications to determine scope of work and scope of changes.
  • Assists project management with preparation of schedules for estimate preparation, review, and publication
  • Develops forms, formats, and procedures to improve the quality of work produced in the Department
  • Interfaces directly with clients when needed

Qualifications:

  • 3-7 years of estimating and preconstruction bid experience of large electrical projects
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Code requirements and basic electrical engineering calculations; Voltage-drop, Ohm's law, conduit-fill, wire ampacity, de-rating, etc.
  • Proven experience in driving the successful execution of the bid process for $10 million to $500 million bids
  • Electrical Contracting experience a must!
  • Will consider union or non-union candidates
  • Have and/or build the industry contacts that will contribute to bid success
  • Experience interacting with State and local Municipalities a plus
  • Solid knowledge of Estimating software - Accubid Anywhere with LiveCount, McCormick, Bluebeam, and a deep understanding of ConEst a plus
  • Highly motivated, organized, and detail oriented
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus! (Navy Nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)
  • Relevant experience in Critical Facilities
  • Client Facing /Client relationship / Client Management skills a plus
  • Computer Savvy – Microsoft – Teams, Outlook, PP, Word, MS Project (scheduling with Activities and resources, etc.), MS Excel (pivot tables, v-lookup, graphing), Adobe, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Procure
  • Solid Communicator – (written and verbal)
  • Possess highly refined analytical / problem solving abilities
  • Ability to successfully work independently; Self Starter, self-motivated, attention to detail and should prioritize well
