Job description

Gestalt Community Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Literacy (K-12).  The Directory of Literacy is primarily charged with developing, monitoring, and refining the network literacy framework and instructional program. The Literacy Director works closely with the school based specialists to provide continuity for K-12.
Hours - Full-time - Monday - Friday
Location - Charter Management Office
Reports To:  Chief Academic Officer
The Director of Literacy is primarily charged with the following responsibilities:
  • Contributing to the development of a coherent instructional program that is aligned with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts;
  • Developing research-based recommendations for instructional strategies, professional development and assessments to increase the quality of literacy teaching and learning;
  • Vetting and refining Common Core aligned assessments for 6-12 grade reading and writing class.
  • Developing and vetting units of study for 6-12 grade reading and writing.
  • Participating in instructional rounds and literacy coaching sessions;
  • Delivering professional development and coaching to increase the quality of literacy instruction;
  • Mentoring and training Literacy Content Leaders, and Master Teachers to build each school's internal capacity;
  • Modeling best practices for Content leaders, Master Teachers, and teachers through classroom demonstrations;
  • Recommending and developing Response to Intervention programs and instructional framework to improve reading outcomes for all students.
  • Using the results of school diagnostic reviews and other assessments of quantitative and qualitative data to modify literacy instructional strategies and professional development content; and
  • Performing other duties assigned. 
Requirements/ Qualifications
  • Successfully taught at least 3+ years of reading at grades 7-12+; coupled with additional elementary experience preferred;
  • Masters Degree with undergraduate work heavily focused in English or the Humanities.
  • Strong grasp of the Common Core framework, PARCC, RTI, and Advanced Placement curriculum.
  • Experience with teaching and coaching adult learners.
  • Highly skilled with developing curriculum maps, scope and sequences, and unit plans for literacy.
  • Flexible, dependable, and a team player.
  • Well-versed in latest literacy research and best practices.
