Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL)is looking for someone to join ourProcess Engineeringteam asan Engineering Project Manager IIinPullman, WA.

The Project Manager II is responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving the execution of engineering projects that support new product development, manufacturing automation, and manufacturing engineering initiatives. This role partners closely with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure projects are aligned, risks are managed, and deliverables are achieved on schedule and on budget.

The ideal candidate has experience managing technical projects within manufacturing environments and can effectively coordinate cross-functional teams to support product launches, automation deployments, engineering changes, and process improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage cross-functional engineering projects from concept through implementation and project closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, resource requirements, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to coordinate project execution.
  • Facilitate project reviews, status updates, and communication across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Coordinate Engineering Change Management (ECM) activities and ensure timely implementation of engineering changes.
  • Identify project risks, dependencies, and resource constraints, and drive resolution plans.
  • Support implementation of manufacturing automation, capital equipment, robotics, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Track project performance metrics and communicate project status, risks, and key decisions to leadership.
  • Promote Agile project management practices and continuous improvement within project teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies, including backlog management, sprint planning, and project prioritization.
  • Demonstratable experience supporting project budgeting, capital and operating expense planning, resource allocation, capacity planning, forecasting, and performance tracking.
  • Experience with project scheduling, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Jira, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or equivalent certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of project management experience supporting engineering, automation, or product development projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI, including developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support business decision-making.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing automation, capital equipment, or industrial systems implementation.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Management (ECM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and ERP systems.
  • Experience working in factory operations, manufacturing engineering, or industrial engineering environments.

Pay Range: $36.56 - $54.03 per hour

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Project Manager II level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.

Project Manager I: $29.16 - $43.10 per hour

Project Manager II: $36.56 - $54.03 per hour

Project Manager III: $86,700 - $128,100 annually
