Job description

Summary:
The Field Operator is an infrastructure maintenance position that will perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, technical, and/or manual labor activities and duties related to the maintenance and repair of public infrastructure. Field Operators may be assigned to collection/distribution system maintenance, street maintenance (concrete and asphalt), storm water construction and maintenance, levee maintenance or airport maintenance, or water meter reading, and will be cross-trained in field maintenance operations.
Responsibilities:
Duties may include installation, maintenance, and repair, of infrastructure within city right-of-way, property, easement, and facilities; use of computer technology; water meter readings, and operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools required for position assignment. All crews assist with special in-house construction projects, may be assigned to assist other crews, provide emergency response and seasonal snow removal and may include 12-hour shifts working days and/or nights.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Three years of increasingly responsible heavy equipment operation, construction, or building trades preferred. Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license; will be required to obtain Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire. Must acquire job-required certifications within 24/42 months of hire for continued employment. The successful candidate must pass the City background check post-offer City physical and drug screen.
